Yeah big newbie Ive had some major problems with this comp. I cant remmeber the exact mobo, i can get it if u need it, but I have fried my second mobo from the same comp. It seems to work fine, but when I just recently tried installing a memory card, i could smell burning, which i believe means the mobo is dead. Is it possible that it is some other piece of hardware that is doing this? What possible ways are there to fry a mobo...

1. Give us the case type or a pic.

2. Could be a standoff or a motherboard riser is the wrong position, some cases have stamped risers for mounting MB's, other use brass risers or another type to mount the MB too the case. (this is plausable since you were installing a stick of ram, ie. pressed the mb against a riser)

3. Could be a bad PSU causing the trouble, bad voltages, poor rails, plain out cheap PSU.

4. Might have another piece of equipment that is going bad, casuing a problem related to number 3.

5. Could be a number of things that could be doing it. Give us a breakdown on what all equipment and items you have in your case.

6. Maybe live in an area that has problems with electrical spikes, might want to try a good surge supressor or a UPS, or both.

Some very knowledgable people here that can help you through it.

Goodluck, I tried to help the best I could, Ill leave it up to the computer gods to step in now.
