I bought 512mb kingston ddr 333 to go into my gigabyte ga7-vrxp, already had 512 of samsung. I put the aluminum heat spreader on and installed the dimm, when i plugged it in a booted up, smelled a funny smell, and 3 long beeps from the board w/ no display. turned power off and went with the original samsung dimm, still get the beep sound, moved them to different slots and everything. did i cook the ram, mobo or both?

three beeps mean something is wrong with ram normally.

Id say you fried both sticks at least.

though its possible the motherboard too...
.
you will need a good stick of ram to confirm this.

look in mobo manual to see what 3 beeps means. it's different depending on which bios your mobo uses.

the cool part is my mobo booklet has no listed beep codes.... more agro by the minute
