Hello,

I have a Maxtor 160 GB DiamondMax Plus 9 drive and last night the logic board fried while i was listening to my music.

My question is, does anyone know where i could buy a new logic board or go somewhere to look up certain drive models to buy?

Not that I know of to be honest. Most times when a board failed, we had another hard drive around that was bad but the board worked to be switched.

You can always RMA it I assume, but you prolly don't want to lose all the data on the drive.

Yeah, i have all my music on this drive which is why i dont want to RMA it. I have a identical maxtor HD in my system, but its a G8FYA and not a F8FYA.
 
I'm curious to know how you determined that the logic board failed.

If the drive can still receive commands (as opposed to controlling itself) you may be able to hook it up as a slave in your system to pull the data off of it.

Otherwise, the only way to recover the data is to send the drive out to a data recovery company.
 
Chances are, if the drive just isn't working, it died all together. That means either the data is gone.....or you'll have to shell out around a grand, if not more, to get the data back.
 
i know its the logic board because i had put another one on there and the drive started to read. The only problem was that the logic board didnt match with the hard drive.
