Ok so I was just sitting at my PC when all of a sudden it froze in the way when a component such as the graphics card or harddrive is unplugged while booted. So i switched off and no and it started up for a split second then turned itself off. I unplugged the HDD and tried booting and all was well. Tried the HDD again and nothing.
Is there anything else that could be wrong, I have ALL my work on it and it isnt backed up so I am DESPERATE!!

Any insight is welcome
Thanks

Possibly, but very unlikely they way you describe it, power supply. You could try and see if someone elses system will recognize the drive. Other than that, it's a pretty cut and dry problem..

well it wouldn't work in my other system either. However I tried it again in my pc after letting it stand and as I switched it on a component of some sort on the harddrive popped and there was smoke all around. Thinking my life was over since I'd lost all my work and personal things, I sat there switching it on and off for about 10 mins. Everytime it switched on a component next the the blown one would shine red due to the heat, and would smoke for the split second the pc was on.

Anyway after about 10 mins the PC booted and my harddrive worked perfectly! I transferred all valubles onto my other pc just in case.

Strange but true
