Freshly built PC

Hi all.

A friend and I seem to be having a few issues when trying to built a PC we have just built.
Parts are -

i5 3570 CPU
Asus P8H67-M Pro Motherboard
2x 4GB Geil DDR3
650W ThermalMaster PSU
Geforce 9800GT

With the i5 CPU installed, we get 4 beeps and no POST - this means the BIOS needs to be updated to support this CPU.

Removed a Sandy Bridge i3 from an Acer so we could perform the BIOS Update, however, the system only powers on with this CPU - no post, no beep codes etc. Taking out all the RAM will cause the beep code for RAM error. We have been able to produce other beep codes as well. Due to this we are confident the motherboard still actually works.

Have cleared CMOS using the jumper, and removed the battery for 5 minutes.
Have tried with the 9800GT (both DVI ports), and the onboard (DVI, VGA, HDMI).
Have unplugged front USB connectors, and everything else possible.

Have reseated CPU.

We really are out of ideas. The motherboard was purchased second hand.
CPU is brand new. Ram was purchased last week. PSU is confirmed working.

Is it really going to be the painful experience of a dead motherboard?

Any ideas?

Which I3 CPU are you using? It's kind of tough if you don't know what BIOS is installed and which CPUs are supported.

Have you tried a different set of RAM or using one stick for testing purposes?

Have you tried only installing the CPU, 1 stick of RAM and using the Onboard video?

The only thing I can really say is head out to the nearest store and pick up a new Mobo and see if you get a different result. You always have 7-14 days to return it.

The i3 is a 2130.

We have 3 sticks of DDR3 - two 4GB, and one 2GB. Have tried what seems like every possible combination.

Yes, we have, didn't help at all

Unfortunately, the motherboard was purchased used via private sale, so a replacement is unlikely.
My friend has just finished transferring the gear to a new case and is about to try power up now.
