After several problems with having VPU errors, and eventually finding out that my hard drive died on me. Well, I've gotten a replacement, and started out fresh. I've never heard of a video card just freezing in the middle of a game, and it wasnt just one, I tried several. The only thing that changed was the time it ran, which didnt seem to have any rhyme or reason.

My question is, could there be something wrong with my graphics card? I have a radeon 9800 pro 128MB, and havent had trouble up until a week ago when I started getting VPU errors with my old HD.

I've only had the computer for a little less than 3 months, and its hard to believe that more than one piece of hardware is ALREADY failing.

Any suggestions would be truely helpful.

I have heard of cooling problems with the 9800 pro, probably from OCing, and I'd say use the nasty file remover for ati drivers, and then reinstall your drivers. This ussually helps.

I just installed windows, and just installed the drivers, there is no virus, and I am not overclocking at all.

Cooling could still be an issue, I suggest taking the 9800's hsf and cleaning the mfg's stuff off the gpu and adding some thermal grease of your own, and point an extra fan at the gpu and see if it goes away. If you ahve a VIA chipset on your motherboard, you need their 4in1 driver, if not it freezes randomly.

I still think it could be software wise... hey that reminds me did you turn off the IRQ in the bios that the 9800 pro uses? if not there's your problem.
