Freezer 64 Pro thermal paste question

Like everyone and their mom I ordered an AMD x2 last week (the 4600). I also bought a Freezer 64 Pro.

My question is, should I use the thermal paste that comes preapplied with the Freezer or remove it and add some Arctic Silver 5?

I used AS5, but a few reviews said that the pre-applied works pretty good as well. I think MadShrimps is one of the h/w sites that used it.

Thanks Mav.

Any other Freezer 64 Pro owners out there?

My roomie bought one and installed it with the factory AC paste. After about 2 weeks it slowly dropped about 2 more degrees C. Seemed to work great for him. Course anything was a big improvement over the 3800+X2's stock cooler and thermal pad.

I used the stock paste on the 64pro for a couple weeks until I got a new mobo then switched to AS ceramique...didn't notice any difference in temps. I did get a 3c drop by switching to Zalman STG-1 however..

I have the Freezer Pro and used AS5....but I've also heard that the paste that comes with it is pretty good...so if you don't have the AS5 already, don't bother.

I also used myself the premounted thermal-compound and was right content with it. Changing to AS5 didn't make out any difference at all. I also read that dell/ibm and some other bigname-brands should be using this thermal-compound ... they prolly should know why.

The paste that comes on it is Arctic silver MX-1. Thats the newest expensive stuff. I woulda kept that myself. It does perform 1-2c lower than other pastes.

I've used mx-1 on my last couple of builds, works about the same as as5. supposedly you don't have to worry about any arcing or anything with it because it's totally non-conductive to electricity.

i used the stuff that came pre-applied for a couple months then i applied some as5 and did not see any difference. the stuff is good.
