my comp freezes every time after a boot while its loading the background programs. but on the following startup it loads everythign just fine. I mean it only started just recently when i put in new ram. The ram i tried at multiple timings first at 2.5-2-2-11, then 2.5-2-2-6, currently its set to 2.5-3-2-11 to be safe. yet it still has this problem any suggestions?

What is the brand of this RAM? If it's Buffalo or OCZ, I bet it's probably defective, malfunctioning RAM.

Do you need all those programs running in the background? Try: start/run/msconfig/selective start-up and uncheck everything you don't need. Then restart the computer. It may help by freeing up some memory.

well this was happening with 1gb of ram so i doubt that was the issue. I just went ahead and reformatted and installed win xp w/ sp2  hasn't frozen. but then again i sent in the ram for rma and im using kingston memory.

Sounds like there is a conflict somewhere. Do you remember when it started to happen?
