Freeware variant to Norton Ghost?

I'm looking into setting up a set of computers. Money is tight (as in the head guy says we either give up DVD-ROMs opt for CD-ROMs one each machine, or buy a single DVD-ROM/RW and the rest have no optical drive)...and piracy is not an option...so we're going with as much freeware/open source stuff as possible.

OpenOffice.Org, AVG Free Antivirus, etc.

One program we do need, or need an alternative to, is Norton Ghost. There are plenty of freeware apps out there that take care of the cloning aspect of Ghost....but we need something that will allow us to compress, backup, and write to a bootable disc.

Any suggestions?
