Freesync with nvidia?????

I know that Nvidia doesn't support Freesync.

Does anyone here use Freesync monitors with NVidia, is there any improvement over normal monitor?
 
My guess it acts like a regular 144hz or whatever hz monitor.
 
so there is no way to get adaptive sync to work on NVidia hardware?
 
There are no "Freesync monitors" - there are monitors that happen to feature Displayport 1.2a, most of which are at least tested to make sure that their control board components handle dynamic refresh rates.
AMD has Freesync which utilizes the adaptive sync standard in 1.2a, but Nvidia chooses not have something similar and free because they prefer black-boxing and proprietary tech like G-Sync.

As far as I know, in the future Intel will also start supporting the adaptive sync standard with a Freesync-like implementation. Maybe then it won't be "Freesync monitors" anymore, but "adaptive sync" ones.
There's no reason Nvidia won't change to do something similar as well when all monitors sold have Adaptive Sync compatible Displayport versions and scalers have gotten better generally, when they lose more customers than they gain from locking their cards into 100-200$ more expensive curated products - but that won't happen for years.

I dislike paying more for Gysnc monitors, but the alternative is horrible AMD/ATI drivers, so there is no alternative.

Nvidia has there fair share of driver issues too. You've already paid a pretty penny for an Nvidia card, whats an extra $200 added onto the cost of a monitor? haha
 
Freesync is just a set of (quality) standards for monitors supporting Variable Framerate (VFR). Not all Freesync monitors are equal. Some have a narrower vfr window than others. This can impact the experience, depending on certain factors (fps, LFC support, pixel response, etc.).

GSync isn't a tax. There's a physical piece of hardware sitting inside the display panel. This somewhat justifies the added cost. While we don't know everything a gsync ASIC/FPGA is doing (proprietary standards and all), from experimentation and external observation, we know that it is doing a lot more than what you'd get out of a non-gsync display panel (i.e. Freesync).

As long as there's a market for gsync displays, nvidia will stay the course. I think nvidia have stated they've not ruled out supporting freesync, but I suspect they'll never do it unless panel makers completely abandon their gsync technology (or come up with something better).

I don't think there's any technical reason why nvidia couldn't support Freesync. It doesn't require any new piece of hardware. Right now, it's all about marketing.

The drivers right now are pretty much the same for both brands, with issues showing up now and then. Current Nvidia drivers have lots of issues so I use several versions older ones without problems. Got both AMD and Nvidia cards in the household.

Drivers aren't horrible anymore.

I had Nvidia cards solid from about 1999 through 2015. in 2015 I switched to AMD.

If Nvidia drivers are a 90% functionality then AMD drivers are an 83% at first. But then after a update they are just as good as Nvidia drivers. I've had about 3 games in my whole catalogue that ever exhibited a bug in over a year of use. What's more - AMD cards gain extra performance moreso than Nvidia cards as time passes in general as they slowly continue to build up driver support. Case in point - check out the Fury X benchmarks these days. It is now a 1.5 year old card and on DX12 game and Vulcan games it is now beating a 980TI and nearly competitive with a 1070. When it came out it was slower than a 980TI. I'm really pleased with my Fury X.
 
I owned Nvidia cards (have a 980ti) and AMD cards(290,290x,Fury) and this crap about AMD drivers sucking is BS. Ive never had a driver issue with AMD. I actually prefer AMD drivers and think games always looked slightly better on AMD hardware.
