I'm wondering what the differences are between these two OSs.
I recognize that OI has updated ZFS versions, but apart from this, what are the real differences between the two? I've been on FreeNAS for the past 2 years and I have had next to no problems at all; however, I noticed that OI is highly regarded in this forum... why?

The next version of FreeNAS will bump the ZFS version to be same as OI, but for me the difference is COMSTAR on Solaris/OI.

If you don't care much about block access, FreeNAS is great and easier to use.

BTW. I prefer CIFS on Solaris/OI, it's faster and has better integration with AD.
