Freelancer

Yep I had been playing it a couple of months back again. I played through the story again and then got bored with the back and forth money-making runs. Mostly I liked the original story but it's not quite as fun the second time around. I never played the MP. Are you? I would definitely recommend this game to any space combat/sim fan even though there isn't any joystick support. It's just a fun game, man. :D

Ya, if you get on a good server to begin with MP its worth it. The money runs do suck, but ... thats how you get your Titan :D

I loved that game to death, but one thing kept me from coming back: Joystick support (or, the lack thereof)

Great game, i only wish the RPG part was more RPGish, like you could actually walk around the cities looking for jobs rather than warping and watching a pseudo FMV sequence when you talked to someone

Edit: Theres a new game coming out soon called Darkstar One that a lot of previewers are saying looks really good and feels reminiscent of Freelancer.

Awesome game. Shitty voice-acting though. And no joystick support. :(

I really couldn't get into it.

I can forgive the lack of joystick support... although, I've been using a stick since the original X-Wing...

No option to invert the mouse made playing the game impossible to me.

ive been playing X3, and its not quite the same, but its similar. If only it had more missions...

I've found Nexus: The Jupiter Incident to be enjoyable. I've played it though several times. It does have some annoying bugs on some missions that just drop you back to the desktop. After it came out there wasn't any support for it so they never got fixed.

I'll check out Darkstar One. Also.. link to mods for Freelancer by chance ? heh.

I was playing again last night, and while I can forsee myself getting tranced out on mineral runs, the gameplay is just utterly fantastic and I am just in love with the arcade-like instant in flight action. Nothing like coming out of a waypoint to a major conflict taking place with like 30 fighters go at it.

I was a compatibility tester for it at MS. I played it so much during the dev-cycle that I couldn't play it afterward. It's been a few years though, so I bet I'd enjoy it now. Now if I could just find my copy.

Darkstar One is supposed to be a new game just like freelancer ... (it's been awhile but I think I remember freelancer ... where you do alot of errand runs, fight pirates and discover a big plot in the process ...) was a few games way back that had a space theme ie wingcommander also ... I might have gotten them confused ...

anyways ... I'm looking forward to darkstar one coming real soon ...
german version is already out but us version is slated for I think a aug release but not sure

I still play every now and then, but what I am really looking forward to is Openlancer. It is not complete, but based on what I have read, it will be as open ended as Freelancer, have the addictive gameplay, have a bigger universe and an economy as complex as that of X2:The Threat

Check out the info at www.openlancer.com

i want my FREESPACE 3 !!!

so old, but one of the few games i have pretty much played every couple of years after it came out. (freespace 2 that is)

I would sell my right arm and left pinky for Freespace 3. Without a doubt Freespace 2 was the best space combat sim ever.

i want my FREESPACE 3 !!!

also, you guys might want to check out space wolves and space rangers 2..

i have finished space wolves twice in a year... (thats a lot comming from a guy who doesn;t finish most of the games he starts)

p.s. darkstar one looks like x2/x3 but with a different engine...

X3 was fun. Freelancer was great. But...

Descent: Freespace (and Silent Threat) along with Freespace 2 are still the games that sucked the most time out of my life. In fact I just replayed them. Good times.

The Swordfish II from Cowboy Bebop AND the Outlaw Star were both mods for Freelancer; I know, because I helped texture one of the [many] Swordfish II mods out there, and I played with the outlaw star mod. I haven't seen either in a while, though the swordfish was on lancerreactor awhile ago

haha just looked it up again, and there is the swordfish! but nothing on the outlaw star mod. I uninstalled freelancer a while ago, and don't really feel like playing again. I used some really big mod (don't remember the name atm) which added "The Nexus" and a bunch of galaxies including star wars stuff, bounty hunter guild....i never figured out if there was actually a main story to that mod or not (i thought it said there was, but i never could activate it...)
