Freebsd Tape Drive Backup

Curious of the best way to back up my mp3's to a tape drive in FreeBsd 5.1.

Right now I have them backup to another hard drive, and I'm hurting for drive space. So I threw the good ol 4/8 gig scsi tape drive in my fbsd box. Tried using tar and it dies when the first tape gets full. I'm guessing tar doesn't support spanning. Kinda hoping for something more user friendly then cpio, or dump.

What are you looking for? A gui? Less complex switches? Something with more intelligence, e.g. a script?
