FreeBSD + Chaintech AV-710...possible?

I just bought a chaintech av-710, and I really love it....but my desktop os of choice is FreeBSD (http://freebsd.org) and I cannot get any of the default sound drivers in FreeBSD 5.3-Stable (latest sources as of one month ago)
so in that respect, I have not even gotten around to trying to get the thing putting out sound with FreeBSD.


then.. I booted up knoppix quick, and after much fiddling around, I got the card working, first using the 6 channel direct connections to my z680's, and then I don't know what I did exactly, but I got optical working (to my logitech Z680's again), and the thing sounds damn good both ways....I was playing digitally imported deep house radio over both optical and 6ch direct using xmms with the alsa output plugin....

So I was wondering if anybody here knows any tips on getting this thing working with freebsd....
anywys heres some quick questions....and sorry if they are dumb, I am googling right as I type this, but I wanted the opinion of the smart people on these boards :D

1) Can I use the alsa sound output plugin with xmms on freebsd?
2) how do i know what DAC I am using on the card (it has two??...or im a bit confused)
3)Any good suggestions of reading about this card...I have read threads on this board saying that the card has great features and potential...but I am kind of a sound n00b....

Anyways, I hope these questions aren't too stupid, its kind of late haha so they might sound pretty dumb.

thanks...I had already checked that out...but I did make a post on the headfi forums and got a good link and info about getting OSS to make this work with freebsd and I am trying that right now
