Blah, if I get canceled I'll probably buy anyhow since I still need 3 copies of W7.

does this mean win7 will hit RTM oct. 1st? :p

good to hear that it's probably legit though! i have a feeling win7 will sneak onto technet just before these subs expire.

Mine says the same date. Does that mean I get to keep the subscription?

seems that way, did you do the survey? did you post you were in the uk? when did you get the subscription, i got mine yesterday early but its still at 1900

from what i am reading i think they are going to let this slide, sept 30 2009 for latecomers and some are reporting the full year.

I'm still at 1900. I just set up an actual US account in my FIL's name just incase.

Also just parted this hdd and am going to install Ultimate x64 because I have nothing for this machine except W7 RC.

I did the first survey (the one before it sends you the link to register for the Technet) and signed up immediately afterwards. There was no option for me to pick U.S., it was greyed out and stuck on UK.

Blah, after installing 7 so many times, I forgot just how slow a Vista install is.

UK Subscription:

TechNet Direct (Retail)

US Subscription:

TechNet Plus Consumer Service Professional Pilot
SubscriptionNumber: ########## SubscriptionType: Retail
Subscription Status: Active
Expiration Date: 1/1/1900

My subscription is showing 6/1/2010 now as well, even though I received that e-mail yesterday.

Also, interestingly enough, my subscription from last year shows this...

TechNet Direct (Retail)
SubscriptionNumber: ######### SubscriptionType: Retail
Subscription Status: Active
Expiration Date: 6/2/2009

Not sure why this sucker is still active lol.

Checked this morning, I went from 1/1/1900 to 6/1/2010.

They have me listed as UK, although I'm US.

I'm cautiously optimistic now.

Mine is still active - 6/1/2010. I think the technet and the feedback/survey program are seperate for the most part, and the subscription will stay active. I hope this is the case. Got a bunch of things right away just in case though.

Supposedly this Free Technet subscription is a pilot program from MS and the subscription expires Sept 30 2009.

http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2009/06/free-one-year-technet-plus-subscription.ars

I signed up using the links from the ars page and using IE, I downloaded a bunch of the ISOs and got a few keys.

I guess I am late to every party. Been trying for 30 min and cant get past the sign in page. I just never loads. Ah well I really just wanted to try out a full version of Expression to see if its all that wonderful, and I dont even know if technet would have it listed.

Expression is an MSDN product like Visual Studio and isn't available on Technet.

Anyone that signed up a few times and have a extra Benefit Access Number that they want to share/give me? Please?

Mine still seems to be active. Says 2010 as well for the date. I ended up downloading the updated SP2 Vista ISO, Windows Home Server for my media server so I can get rid of WS2008, XP Pro SP3 for my netbook, and then Office 2007 since my cousin got the last key use on my current retail copy, so she is just gonna keep it and I'll use the new one. I wasn't downloading keys like crazy at least. I just hope we'll be able to stay in long enough so we can ditch Vista when 7 comes out.

I just got switched to 06/2010 today. I can't get keys though, it's telling me to call tech support. I can download though.

mine is still 1900 but active. was on there this morning pulling server 2008. not sure whether i want to use windows home server or 2k8 to learn it.

EDIT: i was able to get keys after a few refreshes. if you look on their news page there is something slowing the system

They are getting hammered. I kept getting the error when trying to generate the keys and eventually it went through. When I finally showed my keys, it gave me 8 Vista Ultimate keys and 4 Home Premium.

I don't know if this is bad news....... or if anyone else has seen this alert - error on the right side of the page:

Now that the cat is fully out of the bag (Neowin has a post about this front page at the top with FREE TECHNET SUB so...) we're all just going to have to sit back and wait. Stop hitting the damned site if you already have a sub and you got in the other day, you're just making it worse on everybody.

People are signing up and then snatching every key they can and their keyservers are being mangled to hell and back right now. Wouldn't surprise me if they just pulled the plug for a while, not an issue for me, I'm patient. If they kill my sub, I'll just sign up and pay for it anyway, but geez folks... back off for a bit. :D

I got this email this morning but my technet acct is still active.

Hello,
Our records show that you were referred by friend or colleague for a pilot program on the Microsoft TechNet Plus program. We are sorry to inform you that the referrals are only good for those technical support professionals living and working in the United Kingdom. Unfortunately we’ve noticed that many individuals living outside the UK were sent the link anyway.
Thank you for your interest but unfortunately the study at this point is only open to those living and working in the UK. If by some chance you actually are living and working in the UK, you should expect to receive a different communication soon.
Thank you for your valuable time and again, we apologize.
If you would like to see if you qualify to become a member in the IT Advisory Council you are more than welcome to follow this link to take the survey. The IT Advisory Council is a community of IT Professionals and Developers focused on participating in research projects like this one. Membership is exclusive but if you qualify there will surely be other interesting opportunities for you in the future.

Kind regards,
The TechNet Plus pilot program team

I got everything I need now. I just installed and activated 2 Vista Ultimates on 2 machines.

6/2010 here. all signs are pointing towards us KEEPING these subs! without survey work... i almost feel bad, i wish i could give them back something in return... i wonder if bill wants a blowjob....

Thank god I got all the keys I would ever need then used the export to XML option yesterday.

I got all the keys I could need as well. I just hope I get to keep the sub until Win 7 comes out. As of now, my sub still says 1/1/1900. Hopefully I'll get approved soon since it seems like people still are.

Yea mine switched this morning, looks like this now:

the only thing that upsets me is the people who are taking keys for the sake of taking them, will never use them...or worse try to sell them... which is part of the reason we didn't see another 100 dollar deal. This is awesome for people that will use it. But does anyone need 20 winxp keys? i doubt it unless they are putting them up on warez sites....

The key servers are broke at the moment and they have a little error dialog in the corner that says exactly that. I had my sub from last years $99 deal. I am only taking one key for any product, most keys I had already from last year.

agreed. myself, i might actually use 10 keys... but that means like 8 pc's i hardly ever use and just one that gets used everyday. i would never sell a technet key, that is extremely immoral. i want there to be these kind of deals every year, and that's why i wish i could do some quality feedback for MS for this sub.

I got in on this, but won't be heart-broken if it goes poof. My goal is primarily self-improvement/study to keep on top of the IT game. It's much easier playing with MOSS, SQL, and Exchange when you aren't worried about it going poof after 120 days.
