Soap opera of the day comes in the form of a copyright lawsuits filed against two companies accused of redistributing software in violation of the GNU GPL. The problem is, if they are to be believed, one of the companies sued has a compelling argument for a countersuit.

Richard Bruckner, CEO of High-Gain Antennas, said the SFLC is mistaken about the GPL violation. The company, which makes wireless broadband antennas and related products, uses firmware from a company called Edimax, not BusyBox, and makes the source code available, at the request of customers, he said. Bruckner said he tried to explain the situation in a conference call with SFLC officials but was hung up on. During that first conversation SFLC was "already asking for money," he said. "What they need to do is get their act together and read the source code."

if the developers of BusyBox really feel it's a problem, why don't they just sue the companies? it's kinda of twisted that any random organization can sue companies "oh behalf of" other companies (and keep the money from the lawsuit)....

From the fa: //The lawsuits ask the court to give the BusyBox developers the profits from that software, plus other damages.//

And the reason the SFLC can sue for Busybox is because busybox gave them permission.

The bullshit part is that they arn't willing to look into the Not-Busybox claim by the one company, and the GPL/Busybox requirement to share the source for busybox even if you didn't modify it. Waste o bandwidth.

Just another company trying to get easy money that doesn't belong to them by suing someone, like SCO did.
