Free & decent adhesive label printing software?

Greetings,

We bought a pack of 3M 1/2" x 1 3/4" permanent adhesive labels to use for asset tagging. Does anyone know of a good, free program that I could use to print to these labels from 1 to 2000 (because that is how many we bought)? Thanks!

-Set up Excel database, use auto-fill to number 0001-2000.
-Start Word, do a mail merge, choosing to do labels > select the 3M labels you have.
-Choose contacts from a file, point to the Excel database file.
-Set up 1 label, use <<next record>> to propogate the other labels.
-Choose to either print straight or open as a new document and then print from there (I generally do this to make sure the merged document is correct).
