UPDATE - Games lock up is only problem now, see post #7

So I upgraded my mobo over the weekend (see sig). My old Leadtek Nforce 2 crapped out on me. Now I have 2 main problems...

1.) System occassionally will not POST. I have to do a hard reboot. This is not all the time, usually when the system is cold, left off overnight.

2.) I can't change my monitor resolution. If I do the system locks up. When I restart, I go through POST and windows startup screen, but then I get a mouse pointer on a blank screen. The pointer moves, but that's all she wrote. More hard reboots won't fix this.

I've reloaded Win2K sp4 (4) times now, and this problem is persisting. Also running Norton Antivirus 2003.

Any suggestions?

I've checked the rails on my Raidmax PSU, they are steady 11.93v and 5.04

Did you flash the BIOS on your new mobo yet? If not do so.

Sounds like some sort of issue with your video card, possibly. Replug it in and make sure it's seated correctly. Does that board have onboard vid? I'd disable it if it does.

Liveupdate locks up... The ones I found on MSI's site specified NOT for model 6050e-10-20-30 series, which is what I have.

I'll give that a go. It doesn't explain why it won't POST on occassion, though. It should still detect HDD and what not.

Update with a floppy flash utility.

Okidoki, here's the update... (Thanks for all who've helped so far).

Now my problem is games lock up Win2000 after config screen runs.

So far I have - Downloaded all drivers from MSI, NVidia, Creative. I've flashed bios. Set default optimum settings in Bios. Downloaded DirectX 9.0c. Running Norton Antivirus and Zone Alarm. Tried running w/o ZA. Norton has never been a problem with any of these games.

Specificly QIII Arena and MOA - Allied Assault. Config screens flash and then freeze prior to intro movies. Running in safe mode is no help, they stay frozen in Grey, White or Black screen.

Here's a list of ALL apps I am running...

Win2k sp4
Norton Antivirus 2003 (full system scan shows no bugs)
Zone Alarm
Firefox 1.0.2
MSI LiveUpdate
Winzip
nVidia Reschanger

I'm about to run adaware for good measure.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
