Hey all,
I'm installing a new HD for a friend and have been at this for a day now without getting much of anywhere. The problem is this:
40GB western Digital hard drive set to master on primary IDE channel. It's the only thing on that channel.
I boot from a floppy, FDISK, create a Primary Dos Partition, reboot.
Format c: /s, it formats just fine.
Pop the floppy out, and reboot. INVALID SYSTEM DISK...
Tried the above a couple times, no progress.
So I tried with my winXP CD just for grins, it boots from the CD, I tell it to install XP. Format the disk NTFS via windows setup. The first time it goes to reboot INVALID SYSTEM DISK...
I cannot for anything get it to boot from this hard drive. I stuck it in my computer and formatted, ran a full surface scandisk, no errors found.
The only other tell tail sign I can see is that POST takes a VERY long time. It lags at Detecting IDE drives, then again after it displays the installed drives. Then again before it will boot from any device it hangs for a very long time. If I disconnect power to the HD, the POST and boot (from floppy/CD) take almost no time at all.
Should I take the HD back? Or am I just missing something simple? Thanks guys!
