According to an anonymous source, France wants $1.76 billion in back taxes from Google. I'm not sure how much money Google saves with its "aggressive tax optimization techniques" but how much money would a company have to make in France to owe the country that much money?

France is seeking 1.6 billion euros ($1.76 billion) in back taxes from U.S. Internet giant Google, criticized for its use of aggressive tax optimization techniques, a source at the finance ministry said on Wednesday. "As far as our country is concerned, back taxes concerning this company amount to 1.6 billion euros," the official, who declined to be named, said. A spokeswoman for Google France declined to comment.
 
Good for france. I like google and all but all this "move the money around so we owe next to nothing" is bs. This is the only way this kind of stuff will stop, if the countries involved say enough.

Yeah, they all are as most capitalist economies have been corrupted by big co and banks.
This shit aint capitalism any more, and I expect more and more governments makes moves for where the money is, they probably dont know what else to do.

So if you create a website, and someone from France sees an ad on your website (hosted in the USA) and you get payed for that AdView, you owe the French Government money?? Why?

EU law prevents exactly what France is trying to do..

When has the attainment and accumulation of wealth ever been free of corruption in human history? While people of varying economic and political ideologies might point to different actors and influences causing corruption, corruption and wealth accumulation have been fast friends since the beginning.
 
I don't get why Google supports so many Democratic Party and foreign liberal politicians and policies yet doesn't want to pay the high tax rates that those politicians advocate.

Because that's what modern "liberalism" is. Stuff that only cares about social issues like abortion or gay rights or whatever, but backs down as soon as it causes any waves with big money interests. Things like gay marriage aren't any threat so the bottom line, so they get discussed all day, but tax avoidance has real consequences, so it doesn't get bought up in the US.

I'd expect France is going after the taxes that should have been paid for profits generated by Google for accepting money to show ads to users in France.

And actually EU law has been changing to prevent the likes of Google and Amazon from further using these tax avoidance schemes.

You just described libertarians (or licensearians, the term I prefer). Democrats/liberals subsist primarily on keeping entire generations at a government-dependent subsistence level in order to secure perpetual (and postmortem) votes, and inciting class hatred is part of that process.

Libertarians, by and large, feel that the government shouldn't be involved at all in issues like gay marriage or abortion, or anything else outside of a very narrow range of things that the government should indeed be empowered to handle. So, no, it's not like libertarianism.
 
Time to move on Google and start providing jobs in the United States not France. 1.76 billion in taxes seems alittle out of wack and almost criminal . If i were google i would leave the country and not come back and tell them to go F off and pay them back in garbage trucks full of pennies

That's certainly interesting. In a way, it makes sense because a French citizen viewing an ad while in France is likely the targeted market for the ad. Thereby a company paid Google to put ads in France for the purpose of driving that clients products in France.

On the other hand, it's a flippin ad, and I can imagine all of this is a cluster fuck for accounting.
 
'governments' sprang from mob-like protection rackets, nice to see them returning to their roots.

But Hollande is socialist and he is running out of middle class money, he raised taxes for the wealthy to 75% guess what happened they left(which is what liberals and Berniebots do not understand) thats why they keep their cash offshore to leave peacefully without losing a cent.

So if i decide to create my own plumbing, electric or even a design studio/work freelance and retire a multi millionaire i am a corrupt budiness person who does not deserve the fruits of my labour and the governments should take it all is that what you saying.
