Frame problem

I have a protein #7596 p217_c28Murea that got to frame 8 then started another frame 8 and stuck there. I tried restarting it and it did the same thing.

Do I need to restart the client with a -clear flag or something?

I didn't realize it was hung up, so this machine has been down for about 24Hrs now...which sucks.

I'd try restarting the client (reboot).... Can you post a bit of your log file?

Sometimes when the client gets shut down in the middle of a frame, it'll have a stopping point saved, and it'll start from that... I've seen it repeat a frame number before like this:

[15:45:49] Completed 61791 out of 250000 steps (25)
[15:45:55] Extra SSE boost OK.
[15:52:08] Writing local files
[15:52:08] Completed 62500 out of 250000 steps (25)

I think it rounds to the nearest percentage... so it may round up to say, 25%, and then post 25% again when it actually gets 25% done....

But if you post a little more info about it (protein, core, log file, etc), we'll be able to have a better idea...

OK, here is the log. I'll try rebooting the machine in a bit.

Well, I just checked as I was about to reboot and it just finished another frame/step. It took about 12Hrs, but it did finsh it. Still that part in the log about the "client no longer detected" seems a bit odd, and the fact that it took 12Hrs to complete that part and it usually takes 12min on that machine.....

What do you think?

Well, as for the repeating step, it looks the same as what I posted before....

BUT.... I've never seen "Client no longer detected. Shutting down core"... That's odd...

What CPU do you have? is there anything in task manager that is stealing cycles? was that 12 hours of gaming by any chance?

There was something stealing cycles......3 instances of the folding core. I am not sure what is going on. I'll try rebooting and restarting the clent.

Hmm... did you set it up to run as a service? (multiple times?)... disable 2 of them, if so, and you should only have 1 running.... Unless you have HT or multiple processors, it's VERY rare to run more than one client on the same PC...

It was set to run as a service...with only one instance as far as I can tell. I am not sure what happened. It seems to be running correctly at the moment (after reboot). I'll keep a closer eye on it for the next several hours.

sounds like a plan.... keep us posted.... wasted cycles are like kryptonite to us :D

Yeah. That little "mishap" may have prevented me from breaking 5k this weekend...which I was looking forward to.

Oh well...

We call have little mishaps... there will be plenty of more milestones in your future :D

I was just happy to break 200k before my birthday tomorrow

Keep on Folding!!

5k marks go by to fast now..
its like. oh. another 5k..

oh i broke the top 500.. oh. oh well.. :)

hope it continues to fold good for you!

Yeah, yeah, yeah....I won't be catching up to any of you guys, but that's OK. It's going to take some time and $$ to upgrade the old G@H farm to be useful again. A bunch of 200MHz and under Pentiums just don't cut it for Folding

I would not worry about corrupted wu and such. It happens. Life happens. After three years of folding, it won't even fizz you. Sometimes you just gotta delete the wu's and d/l another one. It happens.

Ciao for now ......
