I have my comp setup with 2 hd's a 40gb Maxtor and a 80GB Hitachi.

The 40gb maxtor has a 10gb partition for Windows XP, then a 30gb partition for Applications.

The 80gb Hitachi is for downloading and Games.

What I'm having happening is some games will freeze when going into a new area of a level, loading a new sound, basically anything to do with loading more information, the harddrive light on the box goes solid and it freezes up, not the whole computer mind you just the game itself.

The drive is very fragmented, due to the downloading program I use. Would a fragmented drive cause the symptoms I am having or should I be looking in a different direction?

Also the Hitachi drive shows up as CHS in the bios and if I only have it in the computer and try and install an Operating system to it the computer hangs right after the initial bios screen. The only way it works is if it's a slave. Bad drive?

Thanks
Dez

It could be causing the issues.

If it is heavily fragmented,... then defrag it. If it gets fragged often, defrag it often.
