I'm looking to put together a primarily Gaming machine (Guild Wars 2, Skyrim, Doom, etc) that is somewhat future proof. I'm looking to stay under 2 grand. I plan on pulling the trigger in March. I'm primarily looking for help with the graphics card and RGB fans that might sync with the rest of the box.

Dump the i7-7700k for the 8700k and it's additional cores/threads.

Consolidate to a single SSD for the OS and apps. A 1 TB SATA model in either 2.5" or m.2 format should be good. If you need storage for media and other bulk files, get a HDD. There's no benefit to having such files on a SSD.

For now, The GTX 1060 should be adequate for 1080p gaming at relatively high settings, but I feel it doesn't give much room to grow. Probably also less optimal at 1440p, and a no-go at 4k. I think I'd be considering the 1070 at minimum, probably the 1070ti. It really depends on the display resolution.

PSU is a bit oversized. Something in the area of 500 W would be more than fine, and be closer to the efficiency sweet-spot for most of the system's operating range. If overclocking and opting for a larger GPU then maybe consider a 600 W unit. Seasonic units are always a solid choice.

That CPU cooler looks ridiculous, and AFAIK Coolermaster is not a revered brand in the segment. If not overclocking a basic 120 mm tower from a good brand (e.g., Noctua, Thermalright) would be fine. If overclocking look to the 140+ mm units.

Thanks, I typically undershoot on the video card because I usually end up replacing them first.

I'll take a look at your suggestions and edit the op in a few

Made some of the suggested changes. According to the info I read on newegg, I believe the mobo and cpu are compatible, but pc hound says they are not.
