Hey guys I was just sitting here at work was looking at a 3d monitor online and it has 120Hz refresh rate. What I'm wondering is if your monitors refresh rate is set to 60Hz does that mean you won't be able to get more than 60FPS on screen?

Yeah, thats pretty much it. It means your video card will send 60 frames per second to it.

I just got one of the 3d monitors and they are worth it. There is no motion blur in bad company 2 now. Its easier to aquire targets too. Things stand out more when they arnt blured into the background.

You can get more than 60fps, however your screen cannot actually refresh at higher than 60 frames per second on a 60hz monitor, regardless of benchmarks showing higher than 60fps.

So basically you won't get any benefit other than knowing your machine can render higher than that.

higher refresh rate will also mean less screen tearing even if you have low fps if you're not a fan of vertical sync double or triple buffering
