I'm narrowing this down to the FPS genre, since so many other genres focus on non-human enemies as it is, and the FPS genre tends to offer some extremes in this area.

What's your preference in terms of enemies in the FPS genre?

Of course, this depends on what types of FPS styles you're into: i.e. war, horror or sci-fi etc., whether or not you play all varieties within the genre and what you're in the mood for, but sometimes there is one you can say you definitively like better than the other, if only by a slight margin.

So, generally speaking, is there one you prefer/enjoy more than the other in an FPS title?

I tried to make the poll a a bit more "broad", because many of us like both, but in different situations/scenarios, while others do not.

Also thought it might be time for a more "neutral" thread/poll people can enjoy discussing, as opposed to all of the usual heated "game vs game" threads.

Both can be done and be done right (read: fun to play), but I haven't (yet) experienced it in the same game.

Humans. I hate pumping clips upon clips trying to fend of all the flying things, crawling fast stuff and so on.

Absolutely, but it's not meant to be about whether or not they can both done right in the same game, just which is your personal preference in general.

Personally, while I love blowing the hell out of people and games such as SoF etc, I have to say that creatures/zombies etc. nudges out humans for me, personally. More interesting and certainly has more atmosphere, though I do enjoy both.

I think Crysis is going to have a good mix between the two, as it seems the end of the game is more creatures/aliens than humans, while the first half slowly builds in that direction with more humans. Who knows, maybe Crysis will be the first to get the mix "just right".

Haha, "flying things and crawling fast stuff"... just sounded hysterical the way I heard that in my head ;)

I can understand that, though. Depending on how the gameplay is, sometimes those things can be seriously annoying. Though, if done right, it can offer far more interesting gameplay even in terms of atmosphere (humans as FPS enemies just aren't "atmospheric") and, of course, the visuals of the creatures and in how they move, different interesting abilities etc.

Of course, I'm also a seriously hardcore zombie freak of almost thirty years, so that's always a plus... if someone could just finally put out a "real" zombie title that does that genre of horror justice.

But I'm also seriously into blowing the hell outta people, certain war games involving tanks and other vehicles etc. as well.

Though it does depend on my mood sometimes and the style of game... sick, horrifying and/or interesting creatures still nudges forward to the front a bit for me, generally speaking.

Far Cry and Crysis. Although the monsters in Far Cry weren't that good.

So you just shot down one of your own options, and the other option is one that you probably haven't even played yet. Even if you have, most haven't.

I think stuff like the flood in halo is an example of it just sucking. Headcrabs too. They may add to the game somehow but they always just piss me off.

Aliens are ok but like a previous poster said the Flood in Halo 3 just blow.

I was enjoying that game until I had to go into the Flood ship, and once out was a relief.

And now I find myself back in the damn thing, out of ammo and just wishing I was somewhere else. I don't find fighting them at all enjoyable.

Apparently people like to e-murder other people. I bet if we all had a real gun, and some random guy...nah...?
