FPD2185W screen goes blank after Windows displays

I have a Sony RB44G with a built-in x300 videocard with DVI-out. When booting, I get the bios display, then Windows XP, then a blank screen followed by "no signal" through the DVI port.

Is the videocard unable to handle the resolution? I didn't see anything in the bios that needed to be changed, and the VGA input works. I hooked my DVD player to the DVI input and it worked fine, also tried a different cable.

Thanks for any suggestions!
Ed :)

Have you tried booting into VGA or safe mode? The part in red worries me....the Gateway 2185 is a 16:9 ratio display and max res is 1680x1050, which is NOT listed in the specs for your card....

Monitor Resolution Hz

640x480
200
800x600 200
1024x768 200

*16:9 aspect ratio monitors are supported on 1920x1080 and 848x480 on Windows® XP, and Windows® 2000. The complete list of resolutions depends on the driver version and operating system. NOTE: resolutions are limited by the performance of the attached monitor.

Thanks for the research, Mr. Rapture. Sounds like I should invest in a PCI-E videocard.

A display as nice as the Gateway we have deserves a nicer video card anyways :p There may be a way to make yours work....but I have never had one of those so I can't say for sure....I am sure someone has...good luck.

Regardless of the resolution you boot into, the monitor should stretch the display by default.

The Gateway is a 16:10 format, not 16:9.

Out of curiosity, when you boot the PC, does the monitor display a white DVI plug in a blue box with "DVI" beside it as the PC is POSTing?

Yes, it shows the DVI icon. Then blackness...

This just in - it displays video through the DVI when booted in safe mode. What is loading that causes no video when normally booted?

Thanks!

oops.....that's right, 16:10

But if he would try VGA mode or SAFE mode, then the display adaptpr would be set to 640x480 @60hz and you could verify if everything else is working properly.....

I had a similar problem and I am trying to figure out whether I need to return my monitor or if my card is under power for the monitor.

Everything works fine on the VGA cable. But i get so much shadow w/ text especially on dialogue box which is unacceptable for monitor in this class.

My Setup as follow:

Athlon 64 3800
ASUS A8N SLI BIOS 1016
512 x 2 DDR
ASUS 6600 128mb driver 81.98
WinXP SP2

At first I had the exact same problem as mentioned with DVI. I get boot screen and windows boot screen then it goes blank. I was able to get the monitor to boot w/ VGA enable. Then, I uninstall my old video driver (66.93) and replaced it with 81.98. Then, I can't even get a signal from DVI from boot. I tried reinstalling the 66.93 now i get no signal to DVI at all.

DVI My video card worked perfectly on my Samsung 173T. I can "fool" video card by plugging my 173T via DVI then switching it to the Gateway. But as soon as i run the video properties the LCD goes blank.

It would be a shame to have to return this otherwise great panel.

Update - I upgraded to a GeForce 6600 and my problems have disappeared. :)

Seems the x300 lacks the horsepower needed. Thanks for the help! :D
