Just bought this LCD (and no dead pixels, minimal banding, etc, yay) and an EVGA FX 5500 256MB AGP card. Will not run 1680x1050. I know the display is fine, b/c a 7800GTX did run it at 1680x1050 no problems. This is in DVI.
Tried lots of different drivers, manually adding 1680x1050 (screen just blanks) 1440x900 gives corrupted screen with color bands. Tried changing the scaling options from video card control to monitor control etc, no change.

that the FX series will run 1680x1050 DVI on a Dell 2005FPW, so I was hoping that means the FPD2185W also; just since the Gateway is not nearly as popular that they haven't tested it.
No .INF or any help is on Gateway's site, nor EVGA. Bah. Any engineers want to explain exactly how a video card communicates via DVI with the monitor to negotiate a resolution?
My plug&pray for monitor of course shows generic VGA (no inf available to update it) and Nvidia's forceware by default is showing a max res. of 1280x1024 even though it shows it knows it is a Gateway and the exact model etc. via communicating with it.
