Foxconn or Biostar?

I'm thinking about going with an Opty 148 for overclocking and can't decide whether to go with the Foxconn 6150 or the biostart :( I'm planning on buying a video card though I haven't made up my mind on which video card either. I'm primarily looking at optimal price/performance rewards. I don't mind a $20 difference on MB if it means better success chance at OCing.
 
the biostar has more options in bios , cause your useing a 148 opteron you wont need high fsb . in this case i would recommend biostar. unless you need the pci slots the foxconn

The Biostar OCs a tiny bit better than the Foxconn. The Foxy has more features. As for video card, I'd get a 7800GT.
 
Whats the difference between these two?

One exists, the other does not. ;)

With an 11x multi, it won't matter what board you get. The Biostar does have a 3.3 VDIMM jumper, which is handy for RAM, though.
 
I'm thinking of getting an Opteron 165 and some mATX board. Should I get the Biostar TForce6100-939 for the Foxconn 6150K8MA-8EKRS? I plan to oveclock the crap out of the Opteron 165 (hopefully to 290*9 or something close) in conjunction with 2 sticks of 1GB PC4000 RAM.
I know that the Biostar board is known for its insane overclocking, but it seems to be that the 754 board is in fact the one that overclocks insanely high (due to the CPU's, mainly) and not the 939 board.
The Foxconn board, on the other hand, has a few more features than the Biostar board such as the 7.1ch audio and the Gbit Ethernet adapter. However, this is known to go to a max of 175HTT or something like that.
So I'm in this dilemna and I can't choose which board to get. Can anyone help? Which would be better for the overclocking and stability? I don't really care about the 7.1ch audio or the GBit LAN as I don't have a surround sound system or a GBit Network.

with the 9x multiplier on the opteron 165, you want the biostar, the foxconn has bootup issues with HTT in excess of ~280.

For example with my 165, I knew it could do 300x9, but the foxconn went into safe mode every time I set the HTT to over 285.

10x multipliers and up such as the opteron 148, foxconn hands down because it has more features, better southbridge and onboard audio, much better layout, and better heatsinks.

I'll have to call your bluff on the heatsinks freddy/dan. I'm pretty sure the Biostar's is higher quality than the Foxy's. Doesn't really matter though, since aftermarket heatsinks are better. They normally let you OC a little higher than stock. If I had to buy right now, I'd get the Biostar and a 165. Once you've gone dual-core, you can't go back. ;)
 
no bluff m4rk, the heatsinks on this board, especially the NB one, is huge, and the board is HEAVY by itself, but it really doesn't make that much of a difference I guess. The only drawback to the tforce is that you have 1 less pci slot and that you'd need to purchase a sound card if you want good sound quality, which could eliminate all of your pci slots when it's all said and done.

Also, PCI-E 1x slots are completely useless to me unless a 24-bit sound card is released for it.

Bigger=better and the Foxconn also gives .1v more to the northbridge, but unfortunately, for whatever reason it does not matter. Foxconn's max fsb is around 40MHz less, which like freddy said, makes all the difference if you have a 9x multi chip.
 
I wonder if I can squeeze a 6800GS (probably the XFX) in with a Foxconn MB and if I'll need to get a new power supply for my X-Qpacks.

well, seeing as he's planning on oc'ing, i'd say yes you do :p

i agree with what someone earlier said though, if you have a 9x multi go w/ biostar, 10x or higher go w/ foxconn. even if your cpu is capable of going past 275*10 mhz, seriously, do you really need that much speed? if you get capped by the mobo, you're going plenty fast enough, so just start lowering voltage as far as u can to get lower temps.

how many fan ports are on the biostar and foxcon? im trying to figure what to pull the trigger on. onboard video is ass on either one, sound dont matter and neither does there junk onboard firewall, i use an external. processor is 3700+ san diego 250x11 2750mhz 1.45v. cooling will be a zalman 7700 as my xp90/ panaflow doesnt fit. i need higher than 250htt for benching the 7800gt. im leaning twords the biostar as it gives me more room to breath.

Dapperdan inquired about my reasoning when I said the Foxy had more features. It does, in all departments except for perhaps OCing.
