This has been duplicated by several people over on mac-forums.com as well.

This program:
http://www.shatters.net/celestia/
...is an open-source 3D space simulator, which is a very sweet app I might add. At least on my Windows machine.

If you try to run it on a mac mini (or any new G4) it WILL lock up the entire OS, forcing you to power off and reboot. Actually it might be the radeon 9200, I'm not sure. People with G5's and older G4's have been able to run it fine, but nobody with a mini has been able to yet.

Something ain't right....

update... from what I read on the celestia forums, this has been confirmed as a bug in the ATI drivers for OSX.

The workaround is to disable the vertex shader in celestia's CFG file.
ATI and Apple are supposedly working on the issue. I wonder what other programs are affected?

That program is really sweet.
Works fine on both my macs (see sig)

edit: If you max the textures, it makes that application way cooler.
I like the part where I go infinity light years per second.

You can download some super high-resolution textures for earth too. They can be a few hundred megs total.
But you can get bumpmaps, textures, cloud textures, nighttime textures, etc. as well as download other spacecraft (follow Voyager 1/2 around the solar system!)

That program looks sweet. Will have to try it on one of my windows boxes. I don't think my g3 ibook would like it and my bsd boxes don't have that great of specs.
