now keep in mind i made this video in about 20min., that includes recording the footage and throwing it together. so dont expect an awsome editing job or anything lol

my opinion on the forza 3 demo is it does not have enough crumple of the front of the car like it does in Forza 2, which i hope is added in the more polished full game.

but this video is probly the highest quality (7000kbps bitrate) your going to find so i highly recomend DOWNLOADING the full quality version from FileFront.com instead of streaming it from Youtube...

uncompressed 1280x720 bitmaps of the lancer (77MB) this is what you see on your TV no tricks no compression no size reduction, 100% from the source.

I messed around a little bit in the demo too, with the damage, and just like your video it didn't seem as severe as the previous game. I hope it's not a case of the automakers making them tone things down.

it could also be that the full damage physics wernt ready for the demo build. but will be pollished and ready in the final release. atleast we can hope heh

Isn't the "final release" coming out next month?

yes, but that doesnt mean the demo isnt still an earlier build than the final release.

after all it had to go threw quality control to make sure theres no major glitches bugs ect.

now im not saying the final release will be diffrent as far as damage is concerned but there is always a chance it could be.

after all demos usually are always early builds and shouldnt always represent the quality of a final product.

but the lack of crumpling of the front makes crashes feel very stiff

Yeah, hopefully that's the case. Either way the game is bought.

I wouldn't expect the damage to be any better than what we're seeing now. They'll be doing the most that the manufacturers allow them to do. It's a similar situation to other racers, like GT5 who are just scratching the paintwork on non race cars (no deformation) and providing bigger damage for the rest.

those crashes look like crap. I would rather see them just scratch the car or remove vehicle damage that just turning the cars into an ugly and completely unsatisfying mess.

Seeing this is a simulation racing game for serious racers, I don't think less damage physics will matter too much. I'd rather have memory and processor power devoted to other things.

by that logic, given that it looks like damage looks like complete shit, I would have rather they left it out and devoted the processing power to modeling fancier menu screens.

Exactly... The LAST thing you should be doing is crashing, and in the odd chance that you do you'll probably be to caught up in trying to recover to care about the damage effects.

Hell, Gran Turismo used to not have ANY damage in its games and it was an amazing driving experience.

I play these games for a realistic driving experience, not a realistic crashing experience.

Guys, at this point in the game (a month or two before release), you would think that something as major as the damage model of the game would be complete. it just doesn't seem like something they could easily slip in at the last minute. Another thing those is that this could be set to 'arcade' or damage off.

i had it set to simulation damage. that doesnt men the devs might not have it limited still in the demo tho.

I love this point of view....crashing and mishaps ARE a major part of a "realistic" driving experience. Having your cars bounce off others or have no damage which in-turn doesn't affect the driving, etc is NOT realistic and it takes the realism aspect down a notch.

it's just a demo, laddies, the full game will have full damage.

The demo has the damage the full game has.

As stated earlier, there's pretty big limitations on what they can do... so we'll just have to make do. Assuming we want this many production cars in our racing games anyway.

I really like GRID's damage system (I once turned one of my cars into not much more than a roll cage!). But we'll never see that in a game like Forza / GT for the aforementioned reasons.

I don't know that he meant he's looking for an accurate simulation of the actual racing, but rather just the driving of the car. When I play GT4, I don't even consider the AI's presence most of the time. In-fact, I'm usually alone on the track. Crash physics have absolutely no bearing on whether or not I'll be interested in a racing game(save not being able to disable them).

To each his own, though. I can understand why some want it, and I think Forza has had it all along yes? It's too bad to see them tone it down if it's been part of the series, but in the end I don't think it will be that big of an issue. Hopefully you spend far more time racing than you spend crashing.

Hopefully Codemasters does a stellar job on F1 2010, damage and all :)

Yeah, I'm a little wary of Codemasters F1. I really hope they go for arcade and sim handling models rather than just dumbing it down as they've been tempted to do for all their other games lately.

If they've got it right we'll be posting in the thread with things like this...

OMG, I MADE IT TO THE 4TH CORNER WITHOUT SPINNING OUT!

:D
