IE 6 @ work only, guaranteed through at least one firewall.

The status bar at the bottom shows "Opening page (URL)..." and never completes. The page source itself is complete.

Any known items that might be stopped through a firewall, javascript etc.? The only thing I'm prevented from doing is use the various icons on the post screen.

Been loading slow for me as well the last couple f days. Seems to be from the ad servers and doesnt affect the forum itself.

This asus ad in the bottom kills my loading speed of the forums, everything loads fine but it...

The ad is the problem. Locally stored pages won't load either when it's present but do just fine when I edit it out. Probably a security setting in IE which I can't change. No biggy, I'll just hope the ad goes rotates out eventually. It also kills cut/paste in IE but I can live with it.

I've trained myself to ignore ads so I never even noticed the white square at the bottom of the page. :p

Nothing to see here, move along!

Yes it is the Asus ad at the bottom. It slows down the loading time on the web pages which can get really frustrating at times. It takes around 5 secs more for it to load completely but I can't get to my subscribed threads until it has completed loading.

It was working fine a couple of days ago, it only started around yesterday I believe.

Everything seems fine for me, using any browser that I've got: MSN premium, latest IE, and Firefox...??????

All ads are annoying, but they help pay the bills and Asus is a class act ;) At least we don't have 'Shock the Monkey' to deal with :p

Yeah, that Asus ad is annoying.

It's not affecting my 'pass time at work' surfing activities enough to matter. Paying the bills wins--unless you start doing overlay ads or popups. ;)

well at least the Shock the Monkey doesnt take 10 secs to finish loading....

the ad is really really annoying

Everything is still going fine for me no matter what browser I use.... Everything loads fast, without problems...

same thing happens on post reply pages in opera. seems to be the asus ad.

i can fix it, im just not allowed to say how. my last 3 motherboards were asus and my next one will be asus.

it using alot of cpu in the meantime before it loads, only seems to affect certain browser functions in opera

i can fix it, im just not allowed to say how. my last 3 motherboards were asus and my next one will be asus.

and somehow, my edit made a new post cause, maybe due to my edit screen was lagging from the asus ad. really i have no idea how that happened.

In Firefox 1.0, I am stuck with an additional 10 seconds of loading time. In the status bar at the bottom it says "vipforums.asus.com" or something like that. However in IE, it loads in no time. This is not to say that IE is great though. It still sucks and always will. I even tried Adblocking it (sorry Kyle if this pisses you off) but it still didn't work.

I think I know how to fix it, too.

HINT: There is a sticky refrencing this type of file in a certian forum.

^^^ the hosts file was my next best guess, but I would really like to know another way around this...

Shhhhhhh, Its a secret!

EDIT: (It works, Just add this to your hosts file)

Code:
195.33.130.133 vipforums.asus.com

Also, set your "local host" to 0.0.0.0

The hosts file is located here for XP:

C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/DRIVERS/ETC/HOSTS

Banner ads don't bother me unless they effect proformance. (like this one)

Fine fine fine... I will do this sometime later...

Actually, I heard that having too large of a hosts file can adversely affect performance. (affect, not effect... am I right or wrong? Trying not to be a grammar nazi...)

this whole ad is getting even more annoying...

it takes anywhere from 10-20 secs now to finish loading that stupid ad...

is there any chance the forums could get a diff ad or something? whens the next ad cycle?

It blocks the asus ad from loading. Although it blocks asus.com as well. :(
ahhh... i see now (no pun intended. you know... not seeing the ad.. hehe... bad joke)

and its not like i visit ASUS everyday... or at all really...

but thanks for solving that problem :D

EDIT: just for kicks i went to the ASUS site, and i can still access everything on their site (so far). but whats great is that i dont have that annoying ad bugging me anymore. thanks again!!

I think you all know the [H]'s stance on posting remedies for eliminating our ads.....before any of you get any deeper, I'll just close this one and say that if anything changes, I'll reopen the thread and let you know ;)
