a while back, people where recomending th Fortron stuff. I am about to buy a new PSU I think, so I wantyed to be sure they were still decent. I found this one. The system will be an older p3 1gHz, but it will have fpr 200gb hard drives right wayaw, with more coming later. It will be used for a fulltime, always on media server.

Nothing's changed. It's still an amazing psu. It's just not future proof. ;)

I have that PSU running a NF-7S ver 2 with a XP-M 2400 45 watt @11.5 x 220 , a gig of samsung TCCC ram, 2 opticals, 2 IDE hd's and a 6800NU it's more than enough PSU for this rig, but I'm wishing I had sprung for a 2.0 compliant PSU. I'll say this, few PSU's are built like this thing, it weighs as much as 5 "came with the case" power supplies, and the rails are stable as a rock (multimeter tested) :D

2.0 complaint and not future proof? YOull ahve to excuse me, but what do you mean?

Cali3350 the 530
isnt an ATX12V v2.0 supply as Ronbo pointed out
lacking both the 24 pin main power connector and the dual rails ;)

it is however the best value in an ATX12V v1.3 supply I know of ;)
put one in my brothers computer

any 2.0 PSU's recomended for around the same price? or less. less is always better. I am going for a faitly quiet PC, so fan control is nice. My PC will have the following components:

p4 3.2 prescott
1gb pc 3200
Lite-On DVD
Lite-On DVD-RW
WD 200gb SATA
Seagate 40 GB SATA
BFG 6800 OC

quick look at the usual suspects and I found this one...

Enermax Noise Killer

how about the noise though? my current tower sounds like a jet plane. I am rebuilding it from the ground up and want to eliminate some of the fans and get a quieter PSU. also, 500 watts seems a little high. I am running a cheap 400 watter now with more devices.

OK, my 3 so far are...

Enermax Noisemaker v1.3 370 watt $36.85 shipped
Enermax Noisemaker v1.3 420 watt $72 local
Fortron BlueStorm 2.0 400 watt $84.49 shipped

I honestly don't think I will need the future proof right now. I just bought my 6800 and the CPU, so unless I win the lottery, they will see about a year of use before i upgrade. By then there should be more options. So, basically, unless I can somehow justify spending twice as much for 50 watts, I will be buying the Enermax 370 watt.
