I work at a computer shop and the general idea around here is that the Forton PSU's are actually Sparkles in a flashy disguise. I guess it's cause we get them from the same manufacturer and they said that they are really the same. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

I've got a 235 Watt Aopen power supply here from 1998. It does say FSP-XXXXX on it. No wonder it holds such a high powered rig. :O Ran a Athlon XP @ 2.17 ghz no problems.

so what would be the sparkle HW equivilant of one of those high-end FSP's?

i cna get sparkle for much cheaper you know

F S P = fortron sparkle power group? :p

It should be FSB == Sparkle

just get the one with the same amperage/voltage ratings...

Fortron and Sparkle Power merged back in '94 to form the FSP Group...

"Another innovative company is the FSP Group. The FSP Group was formed in 1994 as a merger of Fortron\Source Co. Ltd. (SFS) of Taiwan, established in 1989 and Sparkle Power International (SPI) founded in 1993. The FSP Group has a 1,000,000 unit per month power supply production capacity with over 700 workers at its Factory 3 in Shenzeng, China. The FSP Group makes high quality 235W, 250W, 300W and 350W ATX power supplies with a MTBF of 100,000 hours. FSP Group produces the FSP-300-60GI 300W ATX power supplies which is resold under the brand name PowerMan and bundled with the full tower In Win chassis. The FSP-300-60GI vents air into the chassis from the rear. In contrast, FSP Group's FSP-300-60GT model exhausts air from the chassis to the rear. FSP Group's FSP-300-60GT is now resold by PC Power and Cooling as the new Turbo Cool 300 and by California PC Products as their new 300W power supply."

this bit of info is about 4 yrs old... :)

I actually got two of those PowerMan PSUs. I find it curious that they're listed in the 'PSUs to avoid'-list in the sticky in this forum.

Fortron-Source Power (FSP) has several brands, including Fortron, Sparkle, Aopen (PSUs only), Trend, Powerman, PowerQ, Powertech (careful -- PSUs advertised as Powertech are often Powertek with the name misspelled), Hi-Q, and sometimes Casedge (but they use other manufacturers as well).

The Fortrons and Sparkles I've seen were identical inside, except that some lacked the fan speed control board, even though their retail boxes said "Noise Killer". Apparently unless "Noise Killer" appears on a sticker on the PSU itself, there's no fan control board, and the fan runs at full speed all the time.

LOL

well I guess the new Blue Storms are a bit flashy
I assure you, a new development :p

for the vast majority of their history together, they have been virtually identical
as always larrymoencurly has the latest and greatest list of rebrands ;)
Id also add they show up as OEM supplies quite often as well
