I recently bought an Auzentech Forte from someone here at [H], and I have recently purchased a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-A700 headphones. I've noticed that there is a hum coming from somewhere.

I can have my system muted and I will hear it, and it gets worse when I have games running, such as WoW. I run full-screened windowed, and can have it open with my mouse on the other monitor, but as soon as I click in-game, it instantly gets a bit louder. It does does the same thing if I go to some webpages such as Youtube. It gets louder as I scroll down the page.

Any suggestions?

Try moving your sound card as far from the graphics card as possible. Sounds like you're picking up bus noise.

I don't have much option in my case. I initially had it directly above my videocard, incredibly close to the northbridge. I was thinking the same thing, so I moved underneath. It's got the fan of the 4870 between it now, but no change.

FWIW, I had my Forte in the first PCI-E slot where it was almost touching one of my GTX 260s and was basically sandwiched in between the CPU and my HSF. I couldn't detect any audible hum through my speakers (sold off all my high-end headphones a while back :( ). I suppose it could boil down to you having noisier components than me, or maybe something with your Forte makes it more susceptible to picking up rogue noise.

I thought maybe it was because you were using sensitive headphones, but if you hear the hum even with the system muted...hmmm. What was your previous soundcard? Or were you using onboard audio?

The hum itself is pretty faint, though now that I know it's there, it's naturally a little more prominent. I've previously had an X-FI Platinum though sold that off.

I only recently purchased the headphones, so was only running them on onboard for a day before the Forte came in. I suppose I might try enabling onboard again and plugging into there to see if there's any sort of hum audible.
