ok well maybe some simple enough questions :

my friend wants win xp on his comp, he currently is running 2k. He has two hard drives, a 40 GB and 20 GB. He wants windows on the 40 GB and the 20 GB to be storage. Is it as simple as just popping in the win xp cd and installing or do you have to wipe the HD's clean first? And will it detect both physical drives and allow me to partition on both of them?

Thanks for the help

Yes, just pop the CD and install it on the drive you want. I think the best idea is to have the smaller drive the one with XP on it as you may want to reformat in time as Windows becomes slow and bogged down, but that's if they are both the same speed. It' usually better to instal Wndows on the faster drive.

I'd suggest reformatting before you install XP....it's just nice to start with a clean system. Here's what I'd do.

Plug in both drives, boot to 2k, partition/format the Data drive as you see fit. Copy all the files you want to keep to the Data drive. Shut down 2k, UNPLUG the Data drive.

Boot from XP CD, partition/format the OS drive as you see fit, install XP. Then shut down, connect the Data drive, and keep going.
