Formatting seizes at 96%

On that computer I posted back before, the HD was running slow (Seagate). Anyhow, I decided to format it. It stops at 96%. I ran seagates zero fill (full), to correct a bad sector, but no go. Still stops at 96%.


Any ideas? The zero fill went all the way thru (100%).

the drive could be bad. are you formatting it in windows or with windows setup? try another machine to format it? I'd be really careful putting important data on this drive.

alright, well I don't know how long it freezes for, but whenever I am formatting a drive it ALWAYS does this to me at around 97%... but will then suddenly jump to 100% and be done. Maybe you aren't waiting long enough?

Sounds like a bad drive. I'd download seagates drive utility first to rule out that.

bad drive. Throw it on a concrete floor and I'll guarantee it's a bad drive

try partitioning it and doing the first partion say 80%of the entire volume and leave the last 20 for scrap,that shuould buy you a few more months of use.

If the drive has physical problems, I wouldn't even risk this. The prices down the road won't be much cheaper. It's not worth the trouble and the risk to save $10-20. Hard drive prices are very reasonable right now anyway
