Formatting in Word

Hi, I'm using MS Word 2003 and I like to make outlines using Word's outline view, then switching back to print layout view and applying all the bullets and stuff. But sometimes there are HUGE white gaps in-between text in the print-layout view and these gaps inbetween parts of the outline show when printed. How can I make Word keep all my text together without any spacing when printed?

EXAMPLE of what happens:

I. TOPIC I
__A. Subtopic 2
__B. Subtopic 3
_____a. Minitopic 1

do "CNTRL + SHIFT + *" and it will dislpay all the chars on the screen.
