Formating/Parting HD before vista install

when I pop vista cd in, it just goes stright to install
unlike xp, where it asks you to format/patition drive first
is there way to do that with vista cd?
I know i can partition drive in disk management in vista but it sometimes doesn't let you fully partition due to some system files stuck in middle of no where....
 
If you boot to the CD and do a custom install it will allow you to partition your hard drive. It's not as straight forward as XP was, but the options are there. I believe you need to choose advanced under the box where you select which disk to install to. I forget the exact verbage, but it's there...
 
Yea, you can do this when you install right from the disk. Much less complicated then it was in XP too.
