Ok, so my friend decided to format his computer. I got him through that and he boots up into windows xp pro. Ok everything is okay. Upon reboot, he gets a blue screen with a microsoft logo with scrolling text saying something about orphan file and corrupt files or something from his D drive. He let that run through and that took like 30-45 min. Now he gets back into his computer, installs the mother board drivers (Asus A7N8X Deluxe) and now almost all the .exe's and .zip/rar files dont work. So far all text files seem to work, all video/picutre files seem to work also. If anyone can give me some insight on this problem that would be hot.

So to help you out, I need a couple of questions answered.
1. The Orphan files and Corrupted files could be caused by bad sectors on his D drive. I suggest you run Scandisk and Defrag on his D drive to make sure everything is ok.
2. Not sure about the .exe's not working, but for .zip and .rar files, did he install Winzip and WinRAR on his system to view these files?
3. Was his system infected with any Virus', or Spyware/Adware? Does he have a Virus scanning software he can check his system with? What about Lavasoft Ad-Aware for the Spyware/Adware removal?

I had him run Housecall because he doesnt have any other AV software, he is running giantanti spyware and yees winzip/rar is installed, its giving him corrupt data when he opens them. Ill have him run scandisk/defrag his d drive, than ks for the reply.
