Well, American and Canadian dollars are basically the same now. (Boo. I liked it when a dollar Canadian bought 1.10 USD....)
While there are places with higher rent here's the thing: This is a city of 1 million people, spread out to hell and back. We're a very, very low density city that historically has had much lower property values and rental costs (within five years many homes doubled to tripled in value - some areas more than quintupled within ten years). Honestly, the rents only stand out because they've gone up so sharply recently. Having an economy that's hotter than it's been for decades, and that's been staying hot for some time has pretty much done in unemployment and vacancy.
Oh, and <3 Spore's concept/demos so far. It damn well better deliver.
