Is there a way to get internet explorer to re-download and install the Windows Update software?

There seems to be a problem with a system I am working on.

When you go to windows update, it will scan for updates, and tell you there are some.

but when you click on a category (drivers, critical, etc) it crashes IE.

I'm figuring if I can force a re-install of the WU component, maybe that will fix it.
If you have other ideas, let me know.

I would take a look around the Microsoft knowledge database. They have some articles in there that should basically do what you are looking for. They are actually there to solve other problems but the solutions involve deleting a few files and registry entries which basically causes WU to reinstall. If this is an XP machine, you could also try a windows repair. If you can't find the articles LMK and I'll look.

there's a program that you can use to get all the updates.

in AutoPatcher XP section. very neat program. saves tons of time

Edit: remembered the program.
I've use it several times, and no problem at all.

I forgot the name damnit...there's "XP + Gold" in the name ahemmmm
if I remember i'll post back

Something similar like XP AutoUpdate Gold

I'd rather not go with 3rd party apps. (This problem is screwing with SUS as well  )

I found info on getting it to reinstall, I will try that soon.
