Forceware 158.16 leaked

Nice!

Edit:

I gained about 530 3DMark '06 points with the exact OC on my GTX. My E6400 is running at 3.62 and my GTX is running 700/2100. Bumped me up to 13500 :)

Just rebuilding this system so I will hav to get some games on it to test with.

Whoa! That's a big jump in version numbers. They're soon going to run out of numbers if they go this fast. :)

Word on the street (well the Nvnews and guru3d forums at least) is that we'll see a Vista 158.14 variant of this driver soon as well.

My bet is that these are for the new Nvidia mid range cards being released soon.

If they can get SLI working in Vista 64bit, I'll be a happy bunny.

Same results as TurtleTrax - have only had a chance to benchmark 3DMark 06, but did see an almost 700 point jump from the 97.92 drivers. On my stock GTX this brought me up to ~12800 on my QX6700 @ 3.1Ghz.

Can confirm that Source fog bug is fixed, and AA now works in R6: Las Vegas.

Cool. Maybe THIS is the driver for the new cards? I don't mind the current Vista driver, but I miss the fan setting.

I think that fog issue was also fixed in the last 8800 Vista drivers, too.
Valve and Nvidia both played the blame game until Nvidia finally admitted it was their issue :p

so what, we finally get a new xp driver? its only been since the beginning of nov.

I have windows xp home edition and when i go to install it, it keeps saying "can't copy file" and insert your windows xp x64 cd. Whats the deal?

Can I use these with my 7600gt or is this a 8800/8600 only driver.

unless you mod the inf, its only for:

NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0191.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX"
NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0193.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS"
NVIDIA_G84.DEV_0400.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS"
NVIDIA_G84.DEV_0402.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT"
NVIDIA_G86.DEV_0421.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT"
NVIDIA_G86.DEV_0422.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS"
NVIDIA_G86.DEV_0423.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8300 GS"

I got the same error when I extracted the drivers with the folder names. Not too sure if the folder path name was too long when it was trying to install things, but I got around the problem by just extracting the files to my desktop and then ran the setup from there with no problems.

how can i modify it to work with 7600go?

very interesting... wasn't there some stuff floating around a while back (just after G80 release) about how the G80 was bugged and was only operating at 70% of it's potential or something?? then there was speculation this could be fixed with a driver.. well, perhaps this IS Nvidia's secret weapon? these cards have been held back at the driver level all this time but are now finally being run at full potential? hrm..

i personally don't give a fuck about drivers for 'new' cards. i want a performance increase with my 7950gx2 in vista, those are the drivers i care about. and since when did the unified drivers stop being unified? oh thats right, with the introduction of their 8800 series cards, stupid ass nvidia.

You can't modify them to work with laptop video cards AFAIK. Only desktop video cards. such as the GT and such, i just got home and i'm gonna mod the inf for my 7800GT's and see if they work, wish me luck

Almost every Forceware driver can be modified to work with mobile cards. Already there is a modified driver at http://www.laptopvideo2go.com. Good driver performance wise. This seems to be a first decent driver for 8xxx series of cards that NV should have delivered 6 month ago.

good to hear, i've never looked to see if they worked with laptop vc's since i don't have one, but got it working with my 7800GT's so far in SLI, i noticed even the install was better, my old 93.71's and even the modded 97.94's would go black screen at the end of the install making me do a hard reset. These don't seem to do that, i'm gonna run 3dmark06 here in a few mins but heres a pic of the control panel which even seems alot better implemented!

Translation: "Me! Me! ME! Progress sucks as long as I'm not part of it! I want it too!"

can someone point me to a place where i can learn how to mod these drivers to work on a 7800gt???

So is this XP only? Not vista 32-bit?

**Edit**

I just tried installing them, and the setup crashed on me saying my video card was not supported. I have an 8800 GTS BFG (Non OC ver.)

Did you put the tags in for MXM cooling for GeForec Go video cards?

Can't wait for Tweaks R Us to get there hands on these drivers.

Forget 3dmark, how do they perform in oblivion, bf2, etc?

Oblivion runs great with these. With the other Forceware X (100 series) I was getting some weird issues such as messed up limbs and weapons when in first person mode. These drivers seem to have fixed these issues, and it is smooth as heck to boot. The only game I now have problems with my 8800 now is Just Cause, everything else runs splendid. I an also please to say that since the Forceware X series I have not had a BSOD - something I used to get at least two or three times a day with the older 90 series of drivers.

Good job Nvidia :)

well, games seem to run fine, but the colors and/or gamma on DVD playback are all hosed.. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (just as I was about to sit down and watch an HD DVD..)

edit: played with the video playback color and things are better.. but not as good as with the previous driver.. 97.94.. seems darker.. still need to mess with it some more I guess..

Rev: Have you found a way to get full screen video with the newer Forceware drivers? I am still at a loss as to how to go about his with the new control panel.

hmm, scored an 8348 in 3d mark with these and an 8765 with the NGO modded drivers

i'll have to stick with the NGO till i have time to mod these to my liking

oblivion and Fear are about the same as the NGO in terms of FPS

well, it's working for me now.. I am using CyberLink DVD Ultra and it goes to full screen just like it did with the 97.94s...

FYI, after adjusting the contrast and brightness a little, I played with the RGB Gamma setting (linked sliders) and found that 20% brings video playback back to about what I think is normal looking.. but hopefully the actual release drivers will have this issue fixed..

on my 6800 ultra,the new control panel gives an error:
Nvidia Control Panel Application,1.4.6.09 has encountered a problem and needs to close.We are sorry for the inconvenience.
(data report:appname:nvcplui.exe AppVer 1469 ModName:unknown ModVer:0.0.0.0 Offset:00000000).
After i press do not send,i get an application error:
nvCplUI.exe - App Error:The instruction at 0x7c.... referenced memory at .....The memory could not be read.Click on ok to terminate.

Can anyone confirm that the Battlefield 2/2142 yellow texture/performance issue has been fixed for the 8800's? Please only reply if you previously had issues that have now been fixed with this driver.

welp, i tried these last night and was playing NFS:MW (yep its old) and after 20mins the pc locked up with yellow and blue dots all through the screen, i've never had that issue with any driver so back to modded 97.94's for me. Oh and my 3dmark went down by 250ish points.
