Force workunit update?

I am running a 8way machine and I am using a diskless boot cd image to that is running big work units on all 8 cpu's. Problem is that the internet that connects that machine will be moved in approx. 2 hours. And they are only at about 66% completion.

Can I force an update and shut the machine down so I can move it to another location?

stop folding, FTP teh work folders to a server somewhere, move the box and ftp them back down. They should pick right up from the last checkpoint.

Is that my only option? This server isn't going to be back online for at least 3 weeks. I'd love to get the 330k points x 8 cpu's uploaded. But if I don't have another option I'll just shut it down.

Since this is a diskless server I'm under the assumption that once it is powered down everything will be lost.

If it will be without an internet connection from now on, or for an extended period of time, I would do what the above poster mentioned.... but if you're just moving the location of the box/etc, and it's only going to be a day or two at most, then don't worry about it....

I guess what I'm saying is, do you mean the net connection will be moved, or removed?


oops.... just caught that it was diskless...... can you transfer the files to a thumb drive/etc?

I don't know how well it would work, but you could try moving your work folders to a thumb drive and then fire up the clients again. They should download new WUs.
Take those work folders and store them too.

Put the originals back to finish those, then when they complete and you don't have internet connection, put the spare work folders in place.

Don't forget about the deadlines, having WUs turned in on time should take priority.
