Force Unleashed Video

So if they keep this trend up, I'm hoping that console emulators come out soon.

First off, that's a legal grey area. Second, almost eight years after the PS2 launch (March 2000 in Japan), pure software emulators still suck for it. You're not going to get a PS3 or 360 emulator any time this and probably next decade.

I think one of the key factors you "PC only" guys aren't thinking about is that there are allot more Console owners these days. The reasons are simple:
1. Cost of ownership. As long as consoles cost about as much as just a "top of the line" video card, the PC can't compete. That's just economics!
2. Ease of use. With a Console you don't have to install the game, find the appropriate patches and apply them, etc... You stick in the Disc and wait a bit and it's running.
3. No used game market. Just today I picked up a used copy of Forza 2 for $29. You can't find used PC games. Well you can at my house, but those were all new when I got them.

I still like the PC for certain types of games. But I've had to face the facts that there are many instances where consoles are better, even though I may not be better at them. I also have to say, I got an Xbox 360 just a few months ago. And Xbox Live really rocks! I can chat with friends and invite people to play co-op and its easy. With the PC I can do the same thing but it's nowhere near as easy, because I have to get multiple pieces of software working together, and with my particular hardware...

Then there's the fact that it's easier for a company like Lucasarts to build 4 different versions of a game than it is to make a "PC" version. The reason is that they can optimize the game for a defined set of hardware, with a known (or fairly well estimated) user base. So they can do the math before the game is released and the "bean counters" don't get ulcers.

Besides PC gamers have historically been so fickle it's a wonder any developer is willing to risk catering to that platform. I'll give you an example. Battlezone was an unqualified success, but when Battlezone II was released it flopped. Why? Yeah it had some bugs, and EA killed development way too early. But it should have still been more successful than it was... I think piracy was a big factor. What I'm saying here is that console players are spending money on games, and PC gamers are spending allot less. If you wanted to make money, which would you choose as a target market?

Okay two things:

1) OMFG that looks ridiculously awesome. Stormtroopers flailing about? Destructible metal? Yes please. If we get completely destructible environments added and I think well have gotten pretty close to perfecting action games. The game itself is looking really great too.

2) WHAT THE FUCK ITS NOT COMING TO PC?! I hope theyre just lying like Epic was about PC Gears of War

<Yawn> I'm pretty certain that we all know the things you've stated above, and I'm also pretty certain that most of us "PC Guys" also own a console or two. I personally have an Xbox, Xbox360, and a PS2 from back in the day...all three functional and still rocking.

The point that I'm trying to make when I say that I would like to see it released for the PC is because I guess I'm just old school, and that's how games have always been for me. Not that I game a lot, but I started out with computers long before consoles were even a thought (except for maybe Pong). I enjoy games on a PC - i.e keyboard and mouse, because I can custom-map the keys to perform whatever tasks I need them to. I find it much easier to draw a lightning quick bead on the opponents head with a mouse, instead of trying to use some damned analog thumbstick to line up. It just feels more natural, and more satisfying when I don't have to fumble through using the console. Besides, I do a hella lot more with my computer than a person can do with their console.

I'm certainly able to load my software, assemble my system and customize it to my liking without issue, and I don't mind the additional cost. If I need a new video card or additional memory, just pop it in and boom! instant upgrade. Try upgrading your console sometime and see how well that goes. Can't do it? That means you have to go out and buy another console....Fact remains that software drives the hardware market, and the hardware market in turn drives software. Its what mkes the world go around. ;)

Its really just a matter of preference, though. My son will game all day long when it comes to consoles. He's been raised in a generation where consoles rule. I like computers, and thats where it'll always be.

Release "Force Unleashed" for the PC and I'll buy it. If they don't, then they lost another potential sale because they were too lazy to port it over for the PC.

Yeah and I've heard all your arguments before as well. To be honest, I've argued your points verbatim in the past. And here's another one you've probably heard already too: "Wish in one hand and Sh!t in the other and see which fills up first..." You're just plain out of date. You can learn to use that controller, or you can watch titles like this pass you by. Lucasarts, and other developers, don't care if they loose a sale to a few people like you. So all your whining just makes you feel better... Now I'm gonna go play a game on my Xbox 360, cause I need the practice with that controller. :p

Feeling a little testy today, are we? ;) Geez man, you don't need to get all fired up about it like that. If I cared enough about one or two titles I'm sure I would learn to play it on my XBox360, but since gaming isn't all that important, then I won't. SImple as that.

You're comments about "shitting in one hand" were unwarrented and not necessary. I know you're older than I am and your suppose to respect your elders, but you're not going to earn much respect by being a smart ass like that. You might be surprised what a little consideration will do for you on the forums. Chill out and enjoy life

Now, lets get back on topic and stop the bickering.... :D

I guess those videos were supposed to impress. It looks like a gameplay gimmick that is going to get old in about 10 minutes...

This is one of three reasons I would buy a PS3, the other two are; Grand Turismo 5, and Blue Ray...that's all I can think of, other than that I'll keep playing Battlfront 2 and JK2 and JKA for my star wars kicks on the PC.

it all seems very "silly" for some reason.
I can understand people trying to grab things but being able to hold on while being randomly flung around like a rag doll?????

guys flying around yet they never let go of the weapon while be choked and flung around??

They never lose thier helmet!!!

What I'm wondering at this point is how they handle the sound issue with all of these deformable/realistically breakable objects. I did notice that in the few cases where breaking glass was demonstrated, it simply played the generic same sound effect, which may or may not be something that's 'final'.

I'm not sure what the point of realistic breaking glass is when it sounds the same as what breaking glass in Half-Life sounds like. Surely they can do better -- especially on the PS3.
