What version of foobar are you running with what plugins and on what spec machine?

I use ye olde special edition 0.8.3 at home because I have yet to find a good replacement for the columns ui plugin for that version and I've got it configured exactly to my liking. That thing runs beautifully clean, never had a problem with it other than attempting to close it at the same time windows was trying to shut down (NEVER DO THAT!! I lost half my playlists and my columns ui config upon signing back in). Even with some additional noise shaping and resampling it rarely goes over 3% utilization on my X2 4800+.

On my work computer here I'm running 0.9.5 without any plugins or resampling and with a crapton of other apps open, including a virtual machine 24/7, I rarely hear skipping or see the CPU usage go above 5% on an aging XP 1.67GHz with 1GB of RAM. I started using it because windows media player is an absolute abomination for trying to play a large library of music and winamp can't be passed off as looking like a spreadsheet :D. Never seen this thing bluescreen, my max uptime is in the region of 60 days.
 
Maybe he didn't like the color scheme of the MMD3 flyer. It comes with probably thirty different color schemes. I use mine in horizontal mode, so each window drops down. The playlist window is the only one I ever have open though, and you can reduce its opacity. It's a great skin. One of the best and top-rated, long after the creator has seemingly stopped working on it.

For me, I rely on the skin more than the player. It's silly, I know. Like I said, I know other players have better sound and a lighter footprint, and I would jump on them if I found a skin as great as MMD3.
 
Sounds like people just want to hate one of the top rated Winamp skins to me. Actually, if you check on Winamp, it is the number one top rated skin. Where's the love? :p

I suppose this Winamp skin looks better.

Haha, thanks for the support :). I wasnt trying to be a douche.. just stating my opinion. That skin just had too much going on in general. I didn't like the color, but even if i did, i dont want to see some 30 buttons on my UI, I prefer it clean and simple.
 
Thirty buttons? You open a window and scroll through the different schemes. Once you pick one, you close it.

I run Winamp on my secondary display, which I use for Thunderbird, AIM, and other apps. I suppose if I had a third display I could use foobar2000 with a bunch of graphics, but I don't need to see album art and other windows.

Version 0.9.5.1. The machine has 4 gigs of PC6400 RAM, runs Windows XP Pro, has a Core 2 Quad Q6600 at 2.4 GHz, an NVIDIA 8800GTX, and about 1.5 terabytes of storage.

I've not noticed much CPU usage; as I've mentioned, it's page faults that are getting me down.
 
winamp 5 is the single best piece of software ever coded. i dont use it for any videos besides Winamp TV. i use it to manage my music, but not excessive tagging, batch tagging. winamp remote lets you stream your playlist over the net and change songs as if you were at the PC. has the most plugins available. decent audio quality. shoutcast/winamp radio is superb...the best single source for streaming audio on the planet. Winamp TV is also great for watching Futurama, family guy, etc streams at work. bento theme is clutch w/ album art, visualization, and song info displayed simultaneously. plus Logitech G15 support (foobar might have this too), global hotkey support lets you control it from inside most games with the click of a few keys.


smart views are fantastic when you have 10k+ songs and want to create filters for just 1 genre, or a few genres. i create smartviews to filter comedy and techno from traditional music and vice-versa.

i havent used foobar in probably 5 years. i thought it was a simple media player not unlike media player classic. guess i was wrong.
im not sure what foobar can and cant do but there's not really anything i can imagine winamp missing.
