Foobar/ASIO problem...

So I was messing with foobar2000 today and, while it is quite fun to mess around with, I have discovered a rather annoying problem that I probably caused myself, but I can't seem to figure it out. When I click on a song it plays fine, but when I click on another song whilst the original one is playing, the program freezes up indefinitely, using no cpu or any more memory than normal. I think the asio*whatever.dll is causing the problem, but as it doesn't really have much configuration to it, I'm stumped!

Foobar2000 --> ASIO dll plugin (SSE2 or Default version) --> M-Audio MobilePre USB

Btw, sorry for the double-post. I've been having some strange problems with the wireless card in my puter lately...

The software actually freezes. I haven't tried playing music/sounds from any other source while the freezing is occuring, so I'm not sure if it is a total soundcard freeze, or just the asio interface (I'm no expert on this stuff, that's for sure!)

I've probably asked this before, but what is the advantage of ASIO? Like using it with Foobar and my Audigy 2 ZS, would really be an improvement over kernal streaming?

I found that ASIO is "louder" than kernel streaming, but that doesn't equate to better sound quality. My only gripe with kernel streaming is in order to listen to my music I have to increase my volume a decent amount, but that makes everything else get too loud (like games or even something as trivial as clicking on a link). Other than that I don't know of any benefits of ASIO over kernel streaming, they both do the same thing.

The only real difference (from what little research I've done on the 'net) is that ASIO is more direct-to-hardware than kernel streaming, meaning lower latency. While lower latency is always a good thing, it has a higher rate of problems due to there being a very small buffer in case things go wrong. This is also the reason ASIO requires a very high processor priority to work properly.

I would use kernel streaming, but unfortunately I don't think my card supports it.

I was under the impression that it works with every sound card.

Although I'm no expert, according to all of the information I've found, your hardware has to support it and, while many m-audio products do, mine (apparently) doesn't.

Hmm I am not one too, maybe Mister X could help us out, but looking up some infomation of microsoft I found this infomation on Kernel Streaming.

KS provides mechanisms for drivers to report capabilities to the operating system. Clients written to run on top of the kernel streaming model can determine the multimedia capabilities of the current platform. Kernel streaming is part of the Windows Driver Model (WDM).
If it is part of the WDM, wouldn't any sound card with WDM support Kernel Streaming? I thought most/all sound cards do?

Well, as I'm not too familiar with the program, I'm not sure what configuration is relevant. What specifically are you looking for?

I'm not very picky... show me everything if you want.
Everything is better then nothing. ;)

Example:

How's this? :)

I'm not sure there's anything left to try. I know my soundcard is 16/48 only (link), might that have something to do with it?

Again, just to make sure we're clear, when I set my settings like this, I can start playing one song (any song) and it will go just fine, but as soon as I try to play a different song, it freezes up.
