I'm trying to format my raptor and I have to install the SATA drivers in order to do so.
Only problem is, is that I don't have a floppy anywhere, I just went to my friends house to get his and it doesn't work.

Is there any other way I can install the driver from USB or CD instead?

Check WD's site, they might give you the SATA software. I didn't need, dunno why but oh well.

I've checked on their site, and couldnt find much, anyone :confused:

It's not the raptor that needs the drivers it's the SATA controller. If you have the silicon image controller you need to go to their website to get drivers. Some controllers don't need drivers for windows install, such as those found in Intel southbridges. With my A7N8X I needed the driver, with my IS7 I didn't. Hope this helps.

my dfi needs the drivers, im just wondering if theres away around the floppy drive. i cant find any around and i'm not going to buy one! i guess i can wait till monday and borrow one at work

as mentioned its not the HDD that requires the driver, rather the onboard controller
be it SATA or say a SCSI driver that isnt included in the OS Install

but yes you can slipstream them into the install CD

Thanks for the links Ice, hope I can get this to work

edit:

I can't do this :mad:

This is my SATA controller driver:

http://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/Driver/Sil3114r.exe

This is what I am following:

http://greenmachine.msfnhosting.com/READING/addraid.htm

Step One - Edit TXTSETUP.SIF

[HardwareIds.SCSI.Si3114r]
id = "PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_61141095", "Si3114r"
id = "PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_288510F1", "Si3114r"
id = "PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_047AA0A0", "Si3114r"
id = "PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_0478A0A0", "Si3114r"
id = "PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_0479A0A0", "Si3114r"
id = "PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_90181695", "Si3114r"
id = "PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_F642270F", "Si3114r"
id = "PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_100415BD", "Si3114r"

Step Two - Copy Drivers

I create the $OEM$\$1\DRIVERS\Sil3114r

Then I throw in the driver's I downloaded from my manufacture's website above

Now I'm kind of confused with the coding that follows at this step, do I have to do anything with it?

Step Three - Update WINNT.SIF

I CAN'T FIND WINNT.SIF !!! :confused:

What am I doing/not doing wrong? Also I am using nlite.

dont ask me man :eek:
Ive just got the links
I have a stack of old FDDs just so I dont have to deal with that particular issue :p

but im transfering this to Operating Systems, whre likely someone will know ;)

however it does come to mind that WINNT is for NT, W2K and W2K3 server (I think)
while WINDOWS is the system directory for XP, you might be looking for
WINDOWS.SIF try a search, and include the optical

I just found this link:

http://greenmachine.msfnhosting.com/XPUPDATE/BIN/XPCREATE.CAB

and I'm using the SI3114R.OEM

Which is this:

[SourceDisksFiles]
si3114r.sys = 1,,,,,,4_,4,1,,,1,4

[HardwareIdsDatabase]
PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_61141095 = "si3114r"
PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_288510F1 = "si3114r"
PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_047AA0A0 = "si3114r"
PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_0478A0A0 = "si3114r"
PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_0479A0A0 = "si3114r"
PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_90181695 = "si3114r"
PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_F642270F = "si3114r"
PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_100415BD = "si3114r"

[SCSI.load]
si3114r = si3114r.sys,4

[SCSI]
si3114r = "Silicon Image SiI 3114 SATARaid Controller"

So now I'm going to use this instead of the driver I got from my manufacture. This leads to more confusion though, what will go in the Sil3114r folder that I made from the $OEM$\$1\DRIVERS\Sil3114r ? Another thing, on the manufactures website, I goto my motherboard ( DFI Lanparty NFII Ultra Rev B.), and the driver for SATA/RAID is called Sil3114r. On the link from GreenMachine above, the closes thing to what's on the manufactures website is called SI3114R.OEM. Would this be the correct one? I am still having problems with all the other steps.

Also can someone tell me how to type in the codes correctly. Like they have here in step one:

http://greenmachine.msfnhosting.com/READING/addraid.htm

am I making any sence?

:(

WHERE IS WINNT.SIF !!!!

I feel dumb, figured it out. Let's see how far I get now :rolleyes:

ok, I thought I did it correctly, burned the iso and go into windows setup. now it doesnt even ask me to press F6 so I assumed the SATA/RAID controller driver was slip streamed correctly but windows says there is no hard drives found :(

What am I doing wrong? Anyone :confused:

lol, thats not true, i believe that floppies should be obsolete. anyway, its also a lot more convienient to make an unattended windows setup disk. sure it may be a headache but i'm not doing anything else better on my pc.

anyways, ANYONE!?!

Ah...another reason to stick to the Intel side. Native SATA drivers, so gdisk works without anything special. People like you should pick up the phone, call AMD, and complain about things like this.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I need help not statments of me being poor and being a gay amd fan boy :p

actually... wouldn't the lack of 'native' support for non-Intel SATA chips be a failing on MSFT's part?

whats MSFT mean? microsoft what i forgot, this will be the second time i asked

I've always been told it's the job of the hardware companies to provide these drivers to MS by the build deadlines....and if not, they aren't included.

Ive PMd for some assistance
where you may have gone wrong I cant really say
in the mean time fan boy statements do keep this bumped :p

(said the mod w\ 6 x AMD processors to the lone Celeron being transformed into a firewall :p )

I will reply later today I promise, been busy at work, and recovering from a hangover.

Slipstreaming drivers is something I do about once a year, but I'll get the dude who owns that test pass to help me craft a reply.

Thanx Ranma_Sao, and good luck with the hangover
force fed fresh air (say 90mph) and lots of fluids\food always helped me
(if simply sleeping wasnt possible)

MaMMa, I called you a pro from Redmond to help ;)

It's not AMD he should be calling as native SATA support has nothing to do with your CPU. It's Silicon Image he should be bitching to, it's their controller.

I think thats what he does mean though, some of the Intel based board have the drivers ready for you so you don't have to do the F6 deal. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. I have 3 Intel based chipset boards, and none of them need you to hit F6 to load any drivers during the XP install. I even have full access to the drives through DOS-like utilities, such as ghost.

damn this is tough. I gotta put out a weekend to work on this. Thanks for the links Ranma_Sao, I'll bother you agian if needed.
