So, thanks to my case choice thread, I've ordered a HAF912, which should be shipped off tomorrow and in my grubby lil geek hands on Monday or Tuesday.

Objective: Quiet performance

Here's the question: What type of airflow setup should I have?

Those unfamiliar with the case, here is the official site:
http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/product.php?category_id=19&product_id=3009

There is 1x120 on the back, 2x120 OR 1x200 top back, 2x120 OR 1x200 on the front, and 1x120 OR 1x140 on the side panel (not shown).

My current plans:

A) Front 200, top back 200, back 120, door low-rpm 140
B) Front 2x120 mid-rpm (1000-1300 rpm) silent-type fans (Scythe Gentle Typhoon seem to be the best value here), back 120, top back 200, door low-rpm 140
C) Front 2x120 as above, top back 2x120 silent types, rear 120, door 140

Reasoning:

A) Quietest, but also the lowest overall airflow
B) Good middle ground. Better intake, quiet exhaust
C) Best for pressure, but also loudest.

Input please ^_^

I say that i like A the best, But is very expensive. The CM 200mm fans move around 110cfm and are very quiet but cost about $23 each.

$11 per, price matching here in Canada :D

Also... 110 CFM at 0 pressure (aka not attached to a case where stuff gets in the way :p). Realistically, it'd probably do 60-80 cfm, if that. Still, it would be deadly quiet.

What all hardware are you putting in there? If you're going for near silent, you can usually get away with putting foam padding in the entire case covering all vents except for using a single exhaust fan and a small opening in front for air that will be sucked in.

I run my setup like that with a 1.4v i7, a 570, 6 hard drives and it's quiet as a mouse. Also using a single 120mm in front of the drives spinning at lowest speed, so if you're using just a couple drives you could get away without. (3) 120mm fans total counting cpu.

You can use PWM fans so they always run at lowest speed unless it gets hot then they ramp up by themselves.

Hardware now: C2D E8400 with a Mugen 2 Rev B on it, Asus P5Q-E, 4 GB DDR2-800 OCZ memory (old skewl ;) ), HIS HD6850 1GB (central fan, not an end fan), 3x 7200 RPM HDDs (will go down to two shortly, I hope, once I offload a bunch of movies and tv shows on the 1TB and take out my old-as-hell 260 GB gaming drive).

Overarching concern: I do not want a jumbo jet on my desk. I like my hearing, would rather have it remain intact :3

Primary concern: Cooling the GPU. Right now, it peaks under load 63-65, and under benching 70-72 C. I don't want it to get any hotter than that, tbh.

Secondary concern: mobo. As the CPU HSF is a big honker that doesn't blow down on the board, having passive airflow on the VRM heatsinks = must.

here's a vid of what my system sounds like now... it's... annoying :| It's FAR too loud for my tastes.

Go for A it is the quietest and remember try to have positive pressure to keep the dust out.

After reading some development logs by case builders and lots of overclocking guides, some are suggesting FLIPPING the top back (case ceiling) exhaust into an intake and forcing all the air out via the rear 120 and natural gaps on the rear wall...

So... plan D) Front intake 200, ceiling 200 INTAKE, rear 120 exhaust, wall 140 intake....

I guess it's a battle between A and D o_O

Thats not a bad idea, the RV02 and other such silverstone cases have 3 180mm intakes and only a 120 exhaust. Are you going to post pics when it gets there?

Yar. Pics shall be snapped. Might do an unboxing/build vid too, maybe even grab some dry ice and saran wrap and do a poor man's smoke test for airflow XD

I've got sort of the same setup, and by far while gaming the loudest part of my system is the 6850 (have it on a dynamic curve using MSI Afterburner), at around 60ish C while gaming you can really hear it spinning.

My exact setup:

Door: 140 intake
Front: 140 intake
Top: none atm, planning on 200 exhaust though.
Rear: 140 exhaust
CPU: Corsair A70
GPU: HIS 6850 mid fan
