After seeing a few of these and looking into it abit more I have installed folding on three machines. A friend of mine has preached folding to me but untill now it hasn't really sunk in. So just to let you know your off topic posts do get attention in other forums and good luck w/ your goal.

things are alittle different on my end. You see im a computer tec so from now on when a computer is under my control it will be folding along w/ my work machine, and im going to get my home maching going later. So i plan to go about work as usual but from now on there might be delays for people untill the WU is done. It will be nice to see how my home machine handles it compaired to these pieces. huh kinda like benchmarking.

oh and one quick question does folding run when windows is locked? i dont like leaving my workstation for all to see. frankly i dont work to hard.

FAH will run after a workstation has been locked. This is what I do with my work computer.

Did you do the install as service option? I think the graphical client will run when it's locked, but the text-based service will run even when nobody's logged in.

the text-based console client is definately the way to go.... most everyone uses it and you can run it as a service while any user is logged in, out, locked,etc,etc,etc....

Feel free to ask any questions you have!

Keep on Folding!!

If we dont start too many "spam" or "flame" wars that is :p
But we have to beat the aussies. I mean really.

think about how many computers are in the USA...

have you seen the pallets of computers schools are selling
on ebay or other places... like 50 for 10$.. @ 600mhz each

30ghz. makes you think. ^_^ too bad they dont sell any near
me.. not that my fiance would let me run 50 computers in
our small apartment ;)

Hide them all in the closet. She will never find them in there :D

mm. we have one closet, her clothes are in there

plus i think the heat and the slight buzzing sound of 50 computers
would tell her something was up... ;)

Woah... link?

Saw them last week. havent looked this week, they were in CA
and some midwest state *shrugs*

I would be willing to contribute some $$ in order to get a farm going...even though 600mhz isn't that fast, 10 of them would crank out some wu's. anyway we can do this as a group?

great idea, I would pitch in , but who is going to house them and pay for the Electric bill>?

sounds good to me... I just lost 3, so there goes the garden... :( I could use at least 4 or 5 of them. I've got space, and our power bill is insane anyways (even after losing 3, we still have 6 computers) so it wouldn't be a problem.

Shipping on the other hand... is on the other hand. If it's gonna be $20 (?) for the lot and $20 each to ship them (not too unreasonable, I'd think) it's better to have everyone order one and throw out the ones they won't use... I know, terrible idea.

if the processors are too slow, can they be clustered to run the F@H process more swiftly? Beowolf 233 Pentium IIs w00t!

For the record: I can house anything, power bill not an issue.

Lemme know if I can be of any help, I'm broke so that's my hold up. Housing/power/bandwidth not an issue.

Plus I have a loading dock/freight company I work with.

power not an issue here. Live in a dorm so power already payed for. Hell the jack up the prices by $200-300 every year so might as well make it count. :D

Someone find a pallet to buy, calculate the cost of shipping to someone who can afford to house them, and then lets get the paypal drive begin!
