my question is this if i have an ati and nvidia card in the same computer can i use the nvidia card for folding and the ati card for gaming?
 
You have to have drivers loaded to fold or to game. I think it has been tested to have both ATI and nVidia drivers loaded on the same OS but I don't know the details.

I don't think it's possible in Vista but it is in XP and possibly W7.
 
what he said. This has been a long rumored aspect of 7 but Ive yet to read anyone actually doing it
 
wat would you say would be better for folding a 280 or QUADRO NVS 280
 
a 275. Cheaper, same number of shaders (what folding needs) and will OC faster or run cooler with less power, which ever you fancy

A 275 will actually out do a 280 since you can get clocks much higher

don't go quadro. If you have one, sell it and buy many normal cards. but I would go 275 If I were you

Then, Sell it, buy a few 275's, they will be better for anything you do

Hell for that price, I'll give ya 40$ for one :)

No do not get a Quadro 280. That thing can not run a GPU client.and it's Geforce-7 based.

Quadro names != geforce names
 
This Quadro NVS 280?! This thing looks totally out-dated and slow as balls. I'm amazed it costs more than $30 new, let alone $169.99 on there! This card was released in 2005, over a full year before the CUDA capable 8000 series, so there's no way this card can even fold in the first place. And with 64 MBs. I doubt it'd be good for anything modern. No wonder it's only $30. I wouldn't give $5 for it.
 
right..... I retract my previous statement. You were actually wondering if a 300+ card would outperform a 30$ card? I thought both were 280 based, my bad. In current gen cards, geforece and their equivelant (sp?) quadro cards are what I was refering to. A current geforce will beat out its quadro brother any day (if you can OC that is, other wise they are the same thing)

I thought you were talking... well... you get the idea

Anyways, my main point remains, if youve got the money to buy a 280, spend it on a 275 and youll be happier
